Today we’d like to introduce you to Ericka List.
Hi Ericka, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Like many parents, I first picked up a camera to capture the precious moments of my children’s growth and be able to share that with family. I discovered a powerful and unexpected artistic medium, allowing me to have an outlet and embrace my creative side. Over time, that personal archive transformed into an international body of work, showcased in global galleries and magazines. Despite my successes, I’m always seeking the next creative challenge and exploring innovative ways to evolve my technique.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. I went through a period of time where I felt like I had regressed and my images felt uninspired and flat. I actually stopped doing photography for about six months because it didn’t feel fun anymore. I did some soul searching and discovered that it wasn’t all photography, just that the type of portraits I had been doing no longer inspired me. I picked up my camera, found some fun people and have been clicking away since!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
What do I specialize in? Wild ideas that inspire creative concepts and multifaceted images. I think what sets me apart from others is that it’s not just a photo for me. The photo should evoke a feeling or emotion and each time you look at it, you should see something new or different.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I don’t believe in luck, but I do believe in opportunities. I’ve learned that when an opportunity presents itself you need to get after it and do your best. Once you do that, other doors will open up with even more opportunities.
