Community Highlights: Meet Olivia Trujillo of Hi Lo Design Co.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Olivia Trujillo.

Hi Olivia, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi Lo started with a simple question: why are we doing this separately?

Three designers. Different backgrounds, same obsession with great work. We met in grad school, went our own ways, and kept ending up on the same calls, helping each other out and pushing each other’s thinking. Until one day it was obvious: the work was just better together.

So we built Hi Lo on that belief. That great brands don’t come from isolated execution; they come from collaboration, trust, and people who actually care about the details.

That’s how we built this agency, and that’s exactly how we show up for every client.

Working with Hi Lo feels like gaining an in-house creative team without the complexity of it. We exist for the bold CEOs and founders who are done settling for fragmented brands, half-finished websites, and vendors that need constant managing. We connect the dots between strategy, brand, and web, so nothing feels mismatched and nothing gets left behind.
This is what it looks like when your brand finally catches up to your vision.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Starting a business is never a completely smooth road. Every stage brings a new challenge, but we’ve always believed the best way through is to tackle it head-on.

One of the biggest lessons we’ve learned is that creativity alone isn’t enough. As we’ve grown, we’ve had to build systems that support the work behind the scenes. Creating clear processes, developing templates and SOPs, and investing in the right CRM and project management tools has made a huge difference. Those systems give us more time to focus on what we do best: solving creative problems for our clients.

Another challenge has been navigating the rise of AI. It’s changed the creative landscape, and like every agency, we’ve had to figure out where we fit. What we’ve found is that AI can speed up certain tasks, but it can’t replace original thinking, genuine collaboration, or the strategic conversations that shape a brand. That’s where we bring the most value.

More than ever, businesses need brands that actually feel like them, not something that could have been generated for anyone. Our job is to help clients stand out in a sea of sameness by creating work that’s thoughtful, intentional, and built around their vision.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Think about the best dining experience you ever had.

You walk in and something shifts.

The lighting is low but warm. The music is there without being there. Someone greets you by name. The menu feels like it was made to be held. Your water glass is never empty and you’re not sure how.

You didn’t come just because you were hungry. You came for this: the feeling that someone thought of everything before you even arrived. That’s the difference between a meal and an experience. Between a logo and a brand.

The brands people remember aren’t just beautiful; they’re felt. In the website, the packaging, the first email, the last impression. Every touchpoint as considered as the table setting.

That’s what we build at Hi Lo:

Not just a logo. The whole dining room.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
One of my favorite childhood memories is a rainy afternoon at home with my dad. Whenever it rained, he’d open all the windows and doors, filling the house with cool air and that unmistakable smell of fresh rain.

That day he brought home a watercolor set for me. I remember sitting at the kitchen table for hours, completely absorbed in painting and experimenting with this new medium. By the end of the day, I’d finished a watercolor piece that I still have hanging in my house.

Looking back, I think that was one of the first moments I realized art was always going to be a part of who I am. It wasn’t just something I enjoyed, it was how I saw the world. That curiosity and excitement to create has stayed with me ever since.

Even now, as we’ve built Hi Lo, I still come back to that feeling. At our core, we’re artists and creatives. Strategy, branding, and websites are all part of what we do, but they all start with the same curiosity I felt sitting at that kitchen table: the desire to make something thoughtful, meaningful, and uniquely someone’s own.
