Today we’d like to introduce you to Marc Mount.
Hi Marc, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I was born in Arvada, Colorado. I went to Arvada West and eventually CU Denver. I went to college for audio engineering and through that I discovered the love of producing electronic music, which I’ve been a fan of since like eighth grade. In my junior year of college, I got an internship at Beta nightclub to run sound/ lights and back line. This got my foot in the door of the industry and scene in general. I graduated college in 2016 and eventually got a full-time job at the club and worked there until Covid hit. Throughout that time I was producing a lot of different types of music, forming, and disbanding multiple projects to end up creating Mport, in 2017.
By 2018/19 I was a direct support resident DJ at the club playing more and more of my own originals in my sets and creating a fan base. The pandemic definitely kind of reset the momentum, and so I took a step back and defined the brand better and introduced a more comedic and more authentic version of Mport. Through social media, peer support and releasing a plethora of music. I’ve been growing a fanbase and being able to tour across the country more and more since 2023. I did a 50 date bus tour in 2024 across the country in 11 weeks with the artist TVBOO which are they got my name out there more, played festivals, like Lost Lands, Dancefestopia, Wakaan fest, Ember Shores, Global Dance, and Decadence. While headlining local shows and shows a across the country. Today I continue to tour and make music while creating a fun online presence.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I’ve been doing this quite a long time and I feel like naturally there’s always gonna be some amazing highs and some low lows for sure. I think there’s always gonna be the struggle of comparing yourself to others, not feeling good enough, or even when things are going, great, imposter syndrome can sneak its way in, that feeling that you don’t belong or deserve to be where you are.
Over the years I think mental hurdles are the most common but also the ones you can somewhat try to control with mindsets and healthy habits versus things like flight delays show cancellations, and things out of your control. Like one time, I was two days away from playing Red Rocks for the first time when the show got moved due to weather. Or when my set got canceled an hour before it was supposed to happen on like 5 separate occasions at a big festivals, due to weather. But those things I can’t control and in my experience there’s usually a positive outcome.
Navigating social media, certain industry models and finances in general are a constant change (almost monthly) but again, I try to keep a positive outlook and focus on what I need to get done at the end of the day.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
So at the end of the day, I’d call myself a music producer, but over the years I’ve definitely transitioned into more of the artist role with the music I produce. That entails DJing, merch design, album art design, stage design, visual creation, marketing, video editing, social media wizardry, traveling, and just wearing a lot of hats in general haha.
As far as specializing in something, it would definitely be music production. Genre wise, I lean into the world of Dubstep but I love making everything from house music, drum and bass, pop punk, metal and just bass centric music in general.
I feel like what I’m known for most is incorporating fun, silly samples ranging from nostalgic cartoons and movies to current memes and pop culture into my music. I’ve always been inspired by fun music like Weird AL, Tenacious D, Bo Burnham and comedy in general .Also, I’ve always liked spoken word/ dialogue in music. I think dancing and laughing are some of the best times you can have in life, so why not combine them. I don’t solely make this kind of music, but it definitely is what seems to resonate with the most people when I do make these kinds of songs. I mean, who doesn’t love hearing your favorite childhood movie creatively used or quoted before the bass drop.
What I’m most proud of is the ability to be myself and represent an authentic version of me online and through my music. I tried for a lot of years to do visual brands and have a “cool“ aesthetic, but at the end of the day, I’m just a silly goofy guy and putting that forward in my art and the way I promote it has only led to more success. I’m so grateful for the ability to connect and relate to so many people through just being myself. I always meet likeminded fans at shows and it blows me away everytime, how nice and amazing everyone is.
I also love my song SOS. I combined popopunk and bass music into one of my most favorite songs I’ve ever made. I sang on it so it makes it that much more close to home too.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
