Today we’d like to introduce you to Zakk DeBono.
Hi Zakk, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I have been playing guitar since I was 4 years old, and music has always been my passion. I started playing bars at a very young age, and those early experiences taught me the value of hard work, dedication, and connecting with a live audience. I have dedicated my life to becoming the best guitarist, songwriter, and performer I can be. Every opportunity has helped me grow, from countless live shows to opening for more than 180 national artists. My goal is to create music that connects with people and continue building a career doing what I love.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. I’ve faced rejection, fake labels, horrible management, worked full time as a mechanical engineer and welder Monday through Friday while touring on weekends, and even underwent emergency heart surgery after being given only a 2 percent chance of survival. Through it all, I’ve learned that you have to grow through what you go through. Every challenge has made me stronger and even more determined to keep chasing my dream. Music keeps me alive. Music is everything to me.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
By day, I work full time as a mechanical engineer and welder. Monday through Friday I put in the hours to provide for my family. When the work week ends, I am usually on the road traveling to different cities and states doing what I love most, performing live. Music has been my passion since I was born, and I have dedicated my life to becoming the best guitarist, songwriter, and performer I can be. What sets me apart is my work ethic and determination. No matter how demanding life gets, I never stop chasing my dream. I do not wait for opportunities. I work for them.
Any big plans?
My goal is to turn my passion into my full time career. I want to continue touring across the world, releasing music that connects with people, and eventually leave my career as a mechanical engineer so I can dedicate myself to music full time. One of my biggest goals is to become an artist with PRS Guitars. I have been working incredibly hard toward that opportunity because I truly believe in the company, the team, and everything they stand for. I know success takes hard work, persistence, and consistency, and I am committed to doing whatever it takes. I have already opened for so many amazing national artists without the help of management or a record label. Every opportunity I have earned has come from hard work, determination, and never giving up. My whole career is proving my drive and doing what I love.
