Today we’d like to introduce you to Lowdy Trail.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Lowdy Trail (born Samuel Hawkins on November 22, 1994) is an independent hip-hop artist and lyricist based in Denver, Colorado. Discovered at age 17 through a freestyle video posted on social media during High School, he built a robust regional following with projects like Hardly Home LP (2018) and Para Social Loophole (2023).
Early Beginnings: Born in Denver, CO and raised in South Aurora, CO he started releasing mixtapes and recording freestyles then releasing them via the internet and CDs before graduating High School in 2013, notably Mile High Society and Illustrious Aspiration through Ryme Kryme Family ENT (Izm White, Creepy Loc) who first signed him during this time introducing him to the world of music from a “ nobody “ to a more serious transition and industry taste perspective before his departure into being an Independent Artist years afterwards.
Independence: He went fully independent in 2018 to release his first LP, Hardly Home with his current manager at the time Dominick Wilson. The Hardly Home LP was recorded at Conway Sound (recording studio) in Denver, CO with Studio Engineer Ryan C. & Josh D.
Continuing to stay Independent he eventually signed with New West Management/New West Movement for a couple years under Brandon Conner as his music manager pushing him forward and helping him to achieve more of an industry standard respect, independent music business lessons, business / ethics standards, and image to help present him to bigger companies or push him to certain labels/A&Rs for music and also personal lessons that needed to be learned to survive as a artist and individual outside of the studio before his departure from New West Management/New West Movement in April 2026.
Discography: Features a versatile catalog of solo and collaborative work, including Dopamine with DJ Simes Carter (2021), Eulogy with Epitaph Beats (2022),
then while under New West Management/New West Movement (CallMeWhoElse, TeaYaMay) and management under Brandon Conner before his departure in 2026 from them also he released Para Social Loophole (2023) 21 tracks with 20 features on the album and all artists featured being from Colorado, and a solo album with no features titled Adventures in Escapade (2024). Both albums were recorded at New Wave Sound in Denver, CO with Engineer Russ P. In early 2026 after signing a distribution deal with ItsGorgeousMusique a record label out of Las Vegas, Nevada (Breadwinner Kane, FL Dusa) with A&R Kendrick Washington/Uncle Kenny so far this has included 2 solo singles to start off the year with Club Life & Do Ya Thang.
Performances: He has been a staple in the Colorado music scene opening up for Dave East, T-Rell, Twisted Insane, Chris Webby, Rittz, Jarren Benton, R.A. The Rugged Man, Murphy Lee, and more!
As of Mid 2026 Lowdy Trail is currently an Independent Artist only under distribution with ItsGorgeousMusique (record label).
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Absolutely not, I believe the road it took for me to get here was one of the most turbulent and also blessed adventures I have ever had in life.
As an Independent Artist I have struggled with the issues of balancing Studio Time, Instrumentals, Online Advertising, and Concerts all while trying to learn who I am myself as a human being in this world since the beginning.
I have dealt with the change in technology going from burning CD mixtapes to online uploading to now shooting Tik Tok content in the studio has been interesting to say the least but not smooth.
I have watched as time has flown by me and I went from being a younger up and coming artist to now trying to keep up with some of the new talent and find some weeks feeling like I’m being overlapped compared to my younger self.
I find myself fighting with my younger identity and the legacy I want to leave behind as I watch myself change in my personal life outside the studio. From struggling with drugs and alcohol in my later years and my own mental stability as I grow older and eventually becoming a father.
I also watched as the prices of services we used to use went up causing more financial struggles and some of those, I’ve worked with now moving on to new careers or positions in the music world or finally quitting sometimes feeling as if I’m behind by staying in this music world.
The day I started I had 0 of everything from fans to subscribers to even songs distributed in the discography of music at 17 years old and I am now 31 years old.
I think learning everything I needed to know from behind the scenes to in front of the fans to struggling with outside studio problems has been a struggle up until this point but one I am proud to say I do my best to overcome in life as an Independent Artist and Musician even if I never made it to the top.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
When I am not working or helping with my friends or family including my daughter who was recently born and I thank god everyday for in my life. I am learning how to become a new father in life now and enjoying the blessings and joy of spending time with just me and my daughter. I am a Lyricist – Recording Artist known as Lowdy Trail (pronounced Low-Dee Trail) from Denver, Colorado. I have been known before for clever lyricism, versatile delivery, and thought-provoking Rap/Hip Hop in my earlier work then moving onto now being more versatile and also helping to show case my Single Song capabilities with my own songwriting skills.
I have released multiple albums and had at least 40 artists come and feature on one of my songs up until this point and that doesn’t include all the mixtapes I did in my earlier years. So much music from that Blog Rap Era time I have released and some of it I lost due to that I never distributed them since they were mixtapes and showcase solo music. I have also written all the lyrics for all my songs except for the feature parts of course up until this point also.
I think the fact I am still able to find the energy and time to put out music is what I am most proud of at this moment.
What sets me apart from others is the fact when I started recording at almost 14 years old I did it with my own influence and motivation. When I had no recording studio I went out on my own and found one via Myspace and got started recording music and took it upon myself ever since the beginning to chase this dream with no handouts or invitations until 17 years old when I was discovered in the music world otherwise besides support from my friends and family and not financial support either always, I had to figure this music world out by myself.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
Key trends from what I’ve seen include AI voice licensing, direct-to-fan “superfan” monetization, a surge in physical collectibles, the rise of non-English markets, and a move toward raw, community-driven musical genres.
At this point I have been in the music world so long that it changes so fast and moves so quick I have no idea outside of what I’ve said above could happen next cause at this point what person does in the world?
