Inspiring Conversations with Ana Grantham of Finding Peace Lactation

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ana Grantham.

Hi Ana, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I never imagined that my own experience breastfeeding would change the course of my career. I’ve been a registered nurse for nearly three decades, but when I became a mother, I experienced firsthand how challenging breastfeeding could be. I also realized how much of a difference the right support can make.

That experience stayed with me. I became fascinated by the science of lactation and committed myself to learning everything I could. What began as a personal journey eventually became a calling. I went on to become an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) and have continued my education ever since because I believe there is always more to learn.

Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of walking alongside hundreds of families during one of the most vulnerable and transformative times in their lives. Every family is different, and every baby has something to teach us.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting my own practice has been one of the biggest challenges of my life. I quickly realized that caring for families and running a business require two very different skill sets, and while I’ve had nearly 3 decades of caring for families I had no experience with running a business! There have been plenty of moments of uncertainty, but each challenge has helped me grow.

I’m also someone who believes learning never ends. I continually invest in my education to provide the best possible care for the families who trust me.  I am thankful for all of the wisdom that my mentors have passed on and from all that my families continue to teach me.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Finding Peace Lactation?
Finding Peace Lactation Services was created to provide families with the kind of thoughtful, individualized care I wish every parent could receive. I specialize in low milk supply, medically complex breastfeeding situations, and helping families uncover the root cause of feeding challenges such as food protein intolerance, slow weight gain, painful feeding, and other concerns that often require a thorough history and understanding of the physiology.

What sets me apart is my combination of nearly 30 years of nursing experience and two years of advanced training in breastfeeding medicine. I have a deep commitment to evidence-based care and continually invest in my education because our understanding of lactation is always evolving. I enjoy solving complex feeding puzzles and helping families understand not just “what” is happening, but “why”.

What I’m most proud of is the philosophy behind my practice. I don’t have an agenda for how a family should feed their baby. My role is to provide information, present options, and support parents as they make the decisions that are right for their family. My hope is that every family finds peace in their journey, knowing they made informed choices that aligned with their values and goals.

I want readers to know that I accept most major insurance plans and offer in-home visits as well as office visits in Lafayette and Boulder. I support families through every stage of infant feeding—from comprehensive prenatal consultations and breastfeeding classes to painful latch, low milk supply, inducing lactation, mastitis, pumping and flange fitting, returning to work, feeding a newborn while nursing an older child, introducing solids, and eventually weaning. No matter where a family is on their feeding journey, they don’t have to navigate it alone.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
I would encourage people to look for mentors with years of experience who are generous with their knowledge and willing to share not only their successes, but also the lessons they’ve learned along the way. Find people who are committed to lifelong learning, stay current with best practices, and embody the kind of professional you hope to become. I don’t think one person has all the answers. I’ve been fortunate to learn from many incredible mentors, and I hope I’ve become an amalgamation of the best qualities each of them has shared with me.

Networking can sometimes feel like you’re meeting a lot of people before you find the right connections, but it’s worth sticking with it. Keep showing up to events that are meaningful to your work, not all will lead to something, but you never know when you’ll meet someone whose values align with yours and becomes a trusted colleague and friend. Those are the people I feel confident referring my families to because I know they’ll receive excellent care. I hope that others feel the same confidence when they refer families to me.
