Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Collander.
Hi Lauren, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve always believed that design has the power to improve the way we live. I started my career in interior design with a passion for creating spaces that were not only beautiful, but deeply personal and functional for the people living in them.
What began as a one-woman business has grown into Lauren Collander Interiors, a full-service interior design firm with a talented team and studios in multiple markets. Along the way, our projects have grown in scale and complexity from furnishings and renovations to new construction and whole-home transformations, but the heart of what we do has remained the same.
Our mission is simple: to improve lives through thoughtful design. We spend a lot of time getting to know our clients—how they live, what brings them joy, who they gather with, what they need from their homes, and then we translate that into a space that feels uniquely theirs.
I never set out simply to create rooms that looked good in photographs. I wanted to build a business around helping people live their best lives at home. Today, I’m incredibly proud to lead a team that brings that vision to life every day.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There have absolutely been challenges, but I don’t let them define me or the business. I think so much of entrepreneurship is about perspective, adaptability, and being willing to make changes along the way. I don’t spend much time dwelling on what didn’t work. My brain is always focused on the potential and what comes next, so if something doesn’t work out, I tend to change my approach pretty quickly. I truly believe that where your attention goes, your energy flows, so I’d rather focus that energy on finding the next solution than staying stuck on a problem.
Growing a business has meant navigating all of the challenges that come with moving from being a designer to becoming a business owner and leader. Early on, I wore every hat imaginable. As the company grew, I had to learn how to build systems, hire and develop a team, delegate, manage the financial side of the business, and let go of the idea that I had to personally do everything myself.
There have also been plenty of challenges that come with running a creative business. Design is incredibly personal, and every project involves balancing creative vision, client needs, budgets, construction realities, timelines, and the many people involved in bringing a project to life.
Of course, there have been difficult moments and plenty of mistakes along the way, but I wouldn’t trade them. Every challenge has helped shape how I lead, how we run the business, and the kind of company I want Lauren Collander Interiors to be. I think resilience is one of the most important parts of building something meaningful—you have to be willing to keep learning, adapting, and moving forward, even when the path isn’t perfectly clear.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Lauren Collander Interiors is a full-service interior design firm creating highly personalized homes that help our clients live their best lives. We work on everything from furnishings and renovations to large-scale remodels, new construction, and whole-home transformations.
What sets us apart is the depth of our process and how much we listen. We often say, “We hear your dreams & we make them happen,” and that really is at the center of our approach. We don’t believe there is one signature Lauren Collander Interiors look that should be repeated from house to house. Instead, our goal is to uncover what makes each client, family, and home unique and create a design around that.
Our work can be colorful and bold, warm and layered, timeless and tailored—or all of those things depending on the client. What matters most is that the finished home feels personal. We want people to walk into their space and feel joy, comfort, inspiration, and a true sense that this is us.
We are also proud to offer a collaborative, highly comprehensive approach. Designing a home takes a village, and we work closely with architects, builders, artisans, tradespeople, and industry partners to bring a cohesive vision to life.
Brand-wise, I’m most proud that we have built a company around a bigger purpose than aesthetics. Our mission is to improve lives through thoughtful design, and our culture is rooted in the belief that design should ultimately make people happier. We are all about Happy People—our clients, our team, and the people we collaborate with.
I want readers to know that great design supports the life you want to live and reflect the people you are. That is what we love helping our clients discover.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
People may be surprised to know that while I have always had a strong creative side, building this company has made me just as passionate about the business and leadership side of what we do.
People often see the finished spaces, the beautiful photography, and the creative side of interior design, but there is an entire business behind every project. I genuinely enjoy thinking about how to build a strong team, create a meaningful company culture, improve our processes, and find ways for the business to continue growing.
I also think people might be surprised by how deeply I believe our homes can impact our mental health and overall happiness. We spend so much of our lives in our homes, and the way a space makes us feel truly matters. For me, design isn’t just about creating something beautiful—it’s about creating an environment that supports you, brings you joy, and makes everyday life better. Whether that means designing a calming retreat, creating spaces that encourage connection with the people you love, or simply surrounding yourself with things that make you happy, I believe your home should be a place that helps you feel like your best self.
