Daily Inspiration: Meet Amber Cavazos

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber Cavazos.

Hi Amber, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started getting into mental health over 20 years ago working for what was then Pikes Peak Mental Health here in Colorado Springs working along side the doctors psychiatrists and therapists. In working with the therapists I would get told at how I should myself go into therapy due to the fact that I loved helping people and had great communication and helping skills, I just couldn’t see myself doing therapy 8 hours a day knowing it can become mentally exhausting and the burn out I would see the other therapists experience. I started researching life coaching as an alternative and met with a local life coach here in the springs to get guidance on what it would take for me to become a life coach as well as following other life coaches like Iyanla Vanzant and Tony Robbins. It was with that meeting and gaining that understanding that I knew that life coaching is my calling. I took my proposal to the ceo of the company to be able to become an in house life coach to be able to work along side the therapists for clients that were ready to not necessarily be in therapy but still have someone to walk along side them for guidance encouragement and help, It was through my job at the time and the support not only from the ceo but fellow therapists that I was able to go to school get my certification and become a life coach, I stayed doing my coaching in house at my previous job for almost 10 years and then once I left I decided it was time for me to open my own business which I have now been doing independently for going on 10 years.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Leaving my job was the hardest thing to do because I was able to get others trained in coaching and facilitate something new within the company but life had other things planned for me at the time. The knowledge and experience I gained from working and being able to help others was priceless and helped me with being able to have the motivation to open my own business.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Ive been an independent life coach here in Colorado Spring for going on 10 years now and I love the fact that when I see my clients I get to learn each of them individually and hear their story because everyone has a story to tell but some just need that guidance and a little push to get them to where they are going in life, Wether its dealing with mental illness to finding a new career path to even just navigating through life I get to walk along side their story every step of the way and I get to personally see it with them which is priceless to me! Even when they fall I make it a point to be available to my clients every step of the way to let them know that Im here for them.

I think what’s sets me apart is that I do have that backround in mental health so I can see clients who have been DX with depression or anxiety or even trauma and I know that with what I have been taught with my background it makes it easier for me to navigate my client individually to help with that mental struggle that I know some of them may have. My specialty I is teenagers and young adults. I do see adults as well but I feel being able to be relatable to the younger generation is so beneficial with gaining that trust with that group,

What do you like and dislike about the city?
Ive been born and raised in Denver all my life and I love my city the people the culture the energy the night life all of it to me is just really just beautiful to see!

As I’m getting older I’ve come to also like the slower pace of life so that is why I’ve made Colorado Spring my home for some time now but my heart will always be with Denver.
