Today we’d like to introduce you to Pippa Sorley.
Hi Pippa, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was born in England and raised in the United States and Canada, and have traveled extensively around the world for the past 55 years. I inherited my Mum’s old steel-cased Canon when I was 16, and have been hooked ever since. I’m particularly obsessed with landscapes and the way it cultivates our perspective of the natural world. My camera is my paintbrush, and a tool for honoring beauty, complexity, and truth—capturing nature with reverence and quiet observation.
Alongside my photography, Pippa is an Operations Consultant for a number of non-profits and sustainable business clients. My photography has been published in the Houston Chronicle, Elephant Journal Magazine, and multiple websites.
I’m a passionate creative whose work weaves together a lifelong commitment to sustainability, a talent for storytelling, and a love of the journey—both literal and metaphorical.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I have been challenged by numerous obstacles with my photography business over the years. With the advent of digital photography, smart phones and now AI, I feel that much of the industry has been diluted. But, with the encouragement of my friends and family and community I have come to realize that I have an eye that is my own, and finally ready to share my art and hopefully inspire people with a perspective that they might not otherwise have seen.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I have 35+ years experience working in the natural foods and sustainability industry. I’ve
worn many hats, from Communications Director at Sustainable Resources and
Marketing Director at Boulder Whole Foods Market, to Founder of eConscious Market
(a sustainable alternative to Amazon) and Operations Director of Earth Guardians. I’m passionate about supporting businesses that are making a difference in the world.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I backpacked and hitch-hiked solo throughout South East Asia and Nepal for six months at the age of 22, when there no such things as ATMs (only American Express traveler’s checks!), internet or cell phones. I stayed in touch with my family by visiting GPOs and hoping to find a letter with updates on happenings back home.
