Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Williams.

Hi Michelle, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started as a housewife, and started scrapbooking to tell our family story of coming to America from South Africa in 1998. I started teaching others to scrapbook their memories. I created a logo and website for my business, Treasured Pages. I was asked by other scrapbooking companies if I could create a logo and website for their businesses. It took off quickly and quickly I realized I could make more from this business than I was doing scrapbooking classes. There my online business started.

Since then I had created multiple business graphics, websites and marketing. I have illustrated 2 children’s books and now have a small side business creating acrylic paintings. I do custom portraits, especially of pets, and also sell my art at craft markets.

I work full time at a company that sells African Art online, africadirect.com

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t always been smooth. I started doing it as a hobby, but when I got a divorce I had to make it work to support me full time. There had been good years and also slow ones, where I had to go look for a full time job elsewhere. I have always done some form of creative work though.

I have met many wonderful people and created a lot of art, through my journey.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I now enjoy painting – from the heart and also custom commissions. I love painting people’s pets, especially in memory of a pet that has past. This keeps them in their hearts forever, and they have a portrait to see their beloved pet forever.

I try and capture the pet’s personality, and really enjoy painting the eyes – windows to the soul.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Do what you love, and you don’t feel like you are working. Be creative and you will flourish!
