Today we’d like to introduce you to Dawn Lurz.
Hi Dawn, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My name is Dawn. I’m a wife, a mom, and I was born and raised in the Philippines. I grew up around wellness because of my mom, who is a reflexologist, and watching her care for people became one of my earliest inspirations.
At 18, I moved to Italy, where I lived for seven years. I studied at the University of Milan, worked as a flight attendant, and spent a lot of my free time traveling, going to thermal baths, getting facials, body treatments, and experiencing different wellness cultures.
Italy is also where I met my husband. He was stationed there at the time, and eventually he proposed and I moved with him to the U.S. When I later started Dawn Esthetics, he became a big part of helping me bring the vision to life. He renovated much of the spa himself and helped transform it into the warm, elevated space it is today.
I started the business very simply, doing facials from our basement with a lot of encouragement from my mom. Little by little, clients started coming, I kept investing in education, and Dawn Esthetics slowly grew into a small team and a space I’m really proud of.
What I love most about Dawn Esthetics is that it carries a piece of every chapter of my life-the care and healing touch I learned from my mom, the wellness culture I fell in love with in Europe, the support of my husband who helped bring the space to life, and the Asian and Eastern skincare philosophy that continues to shape the way I care for skin today.
I’m still learning and still growing, but I’m very grateful that something that started so small has become a place where people can come in, feel cared for, and leave feeling better than when they arrived.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
One of the biggest challenges is that I never really planned on becoming a business owner. I simply wanted to be an esthetician and give really good facials. But as the business grew, I suddenly had to learn an entirely different side of things hiring, leadership, and making decisions I never imagined I would have to make.
Over time, I learned that growth also means knowing when to ask for help and when to stop trying to carry everything on your own.
The most difficult part, though, has been balancing the business with motherhood. I had my daughter shortly after graduating from esthetics school, so I was building my career at the same time I was learning how to be a first-time mom. There were seasons when I worked so much that I came home and felt like I had missed pieces of her growing up. That changed the way I looked at success.
I realized I didn’t want to build something beautiful for my family while being too busy to actually be present with them.
That realization pushed me to build a team, trust other people, and create more balance in my life. There have been many difficult moments, but each one has taught me something about being a better esthetician, business owner, leader, and mom.
I’m still learning, but now I define success differently. It’s not about being the busiest or doing everything yourself. It’s about building something you’re proud of while still having time for the people you built it for.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Dawn Esthetics?
Dawn Esthetics was created for people who want more from a facial than just a quick treatment. We focus on personalized skincare that feels thoughtful, elevated, and results-driven, while still giving clients the space to slow down and enjoy the experience.
Our approach blends advanced Korean-inspired skincare, corrective treatments, and hands-on techniques with a strong focus on hydration, skin support, and long-term improvement. Every client’s skin is different, so we don’t believe in one-size-fits-all facials. Treatments are adjusted based on what the skin needs at that moment and how it changes over time.
What makes Dawn Esthetics special is the balance between results and care. We want clients to leave with skin that looks and feels better, but also with the feeling that they had time to reset, unwind, and be genuinely taken care of.
More than anything, we’ve built Dawn Esthetics to feel personal. We continue to invest in education, new techniques, and advanced skincare so that as the industry evolves, our clients continue to receive thoughtful and intentional care.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
The best way to support us is honestly just by coming in, experiencing a facial, and sharing your experience with others.
We also love collaborating with other local businesses, wellness professionals, beauty providers, and brands that align with what we do. We’re always open to creative partnerships, events, education, and opportunities that bring more value to our clients.
And of course, following us, sharing our content, leaving a review, or referring a friend means so much to a small business like ours.
