Life & Work with Cherish Chambers of Denver

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cherish Chambers.

Hi Cherish, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My story is about becoming myself after surviving the versions of me that were shaped by pain, love, betrayal, anger, and everything I inherited.

I’ve spent a lot of my life questioning what belongs to me and what was simply passed down; trauma, beliefs, anger, love, survival.

I’ve loved deeply, lost deeply, and sometimes my anger has been the only language big enough for my grief.

But I’m learning that I don’t have to let what happened to me define who I become.

I turn my pain into poetry, my questions into stories, and my experiences into something meaningful.

I’m still becoming.

And maybe my story isn’t about everything I’ve survived.

Maybe it’s about who I choose to become anyway.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I’m learning how to be soft without becoming vulnerable to people who don’t deserve access to me, and how to be strong without having to stay angry all the time.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My poetry is a raw exploration of love, betrayal, identity, anger, spirituality, trauma, and growth. I write about the things that hurt, the things I question, and the things I refuse to accept. My poems turn pain into language, confronting both personal wounds and larger social injustices while searching for healing, purpose, and self-discovery.

At its core, my poetry is about surviving what tried to break me and becoming someone stronger because of it; in hopes the reader is able to relate and put words to feelings they themselves haven’t been able to express.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I practice Nichiren Daishonin Buddhism through Soka Gakkai International (SGI). I received the Gohonzon on July 5th of this year, marking an important new chapter in my life. Through chanting Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo, I’ve been able to transform so much of my pain into purpose, find strength within myself, and continue growing into the person I’m determined to become.
