Today we’d like to introduce you to Patsy Prather.
Hi Patsy , we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I don’t think I ever sat down and decided, “I’m going to become an intentional living coach.” My life took me there.
For much of my career, I worked in theatre and interior design, while also spending decades in different caregiving roles within my family. Those experiences taught me a lot about how quickly life can change and how little control we sometimes have over what happens next. They also taught me that we have much more choice in how we live through those changes than we realize.
After a particularly difficult season in my life, I began looking at what it meant to intentionally create a life I loved—not someday when everything settled down, but right in the middle of real life. Gratitude became a huge part of that for me. Not the “just think positive” version of gratitude, but using it as a practical way to change what I noticed, how I responded and where I put my energy.
That eventually led me to Human Design, which gave me another piece of the puzzle. I loved that it wasn’t about becoming a better version of someone else. It was about understanding how *you* are designed to move through the world. I also discovered pretty quickly that Human Design can feel incredibly complicated, so a big part of my work became making it simple, approachable and actually useful.
Today, through Patsy by Design, I work with people online using intentional living, gratitude and Human Design to help them better understand themselves and consciously create lives that feel like their own. Because my work is online, I’m able to work with people anywhere, which I love.
Along the way, I also became an author, speaker and radio/podcast host. My first book, *A.N.D. How 3 Little Letters Will Change Your Life*, grew out of the framework I developed for moving from where you are to where you want to be: Ask, Navigate and Design.
None of this followed a straight career path. It grew out of my own life, the things that worked for me, the things that absolutely did not, and my belief that we don’t have to wait for life to become perfect before we start creating one we love.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely has not been a smooth road.
Caregiving has been part of my life for decades, but there was a period when everything seemed to collide. Within three weeks, I moved my dad into memory care because of Lewy Body dementia and my husband attempted suicide. My dad died while my husband was in treatment, and later my husband died by suicide. Today, my family is navigating dementia again with my mom.
Those experiences changed how I think about gratitude and intentional living. Gratitude, for me, has never been about pretending everything is okay. It taught me that really difficult things and really beautiful things can exist in the same life, sometimes on the same day.
After my husband died, I had to decide what I wanted my life to look like now. That’s a big part of the work I do today. We can’t control everything that happens to us, but we do have choices about what we create from here. I love the life I have created, while still loving and grieving what I lost. Both can be true.
We’ve been impressed with Patsy by Design, LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Patsy by Design is really about helping people understand themselves and intentionally create a life that fits who they are.
My work brings together intentional living, gratitude and Human Design. I offer online coaching and Human Design sessions, so I can work with people anywhere. Human Design can be incredibly complex, and one thing I’m known for is making it simple and practical. I want you to leave understanding yourself better—not feeling like you need to learn an entirely new language.
I think what sets my work apart is that I don’t believe there is one formula for a good life. Human Design reinforces something I have believed for a long time: what works beautifully for one person may be completely wrong for another. My role isn’t to tell someone how they should live. It’s to help them recognize what works for them and give them practical tools to build from there.
I’m probably most proud that Patsy by Design feels like me. It’s warm, colorful, sometimes irreverent and never about pretending life is perfect. Whether someone finds me through coaching, Human Design, my books, speaking or online, I want them to walk away feeling a little more curious about what’s possible in their own life.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
I’m really excited about what’s ahead. I’m currently writing my next book, *Love Is Messy*, which grew out of the love story I shared with my husband, Jon, and our experience with mental illness. That story has grown into a much larger conversation about families, love, caregiving and what happens when life gets very complicated.
I’m also continuing to grow Patsy by Design and my Human Design work. One of my favorite things is watching someone have that moment when something clicks and they say, “Oh, that makes so much sense about me.” I want more people to experience that kind of understanding.
More than anything, I want people to know that you can love the life you’ve had, grieve parts of it, and still be really excited about what comes next. I certainly am.
