Hidden Gems: Meet Tara Seegers of Exceptional Wealth & Family Office

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tara Seegers.

Hi Tara, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Tara Seegers, CFP®, RLP®, MMP is the Founder and CEO of Exceptional Wealth & Family Office, a firm dedicated to helping multigenerational families, business owners, entrepreneurs, and charitable organizations simplify and align their wealth with the life they want to live.
Tara began her career in financial services in 2013 and spent more than a decade at a global wealth management firm, where she helped build and scale a multi-billion-dollar practice. Along the way, she developed systems, processes, and planning strategies that enabled families and business owners to navigate increasingly complex financial lives. Her expertise earned national recognition from organizations including Forbes, AdvisorHub, and ThinkAdvisor.
After twelve years in large-institution wealth management, Tara saw an opportunity to build something different: a truly independent firm focused on comprehensive, unconstrained advice. In 2025, she launched Exceptional Wealth & Family Office with a mission to educate, activate, and equip clients to steward their resources with greater clarity, capacity, and joy.
What sets Tara apart is her belief that wealth is about far more than investments. Drawing from her experience as an entrepreneur, business owner, and advisor to complex families, she helps clients coordinate every aspect of their financial lives, including investments, tax strategy, estate planning, business advisory, philanthropy, and family legacy. Her goal is simple: to help people create order from complexity so they can pursue life’s greatest opportunities with confidence and purpose.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
One of the biggest challenges I faced was navigating the tension between growth and personal service. As I helped build and scale a multi-billion-dollar wealth management practice, I learned that larger organizations can provide tremendous resources, but they can also create limitations on how comprehensively and independently clients are served. Another challenge was earning trust in an industry where relationships are everything. Early in my career, I was a young advisor working with successful families, business owners, and executives who had spent decades building wealth. I had to consistently prove my expertise, deliver results, and demonstrate that I could guide clients through complex financial decisions with wisdom and confidence. The work ethic, discipline, and client-first mindset required to do that helped shape the advisor and leader I am today.

Perhaps the most defining challenge was the decision to leave a successful career at a global wealth management firm and start Exceptional Wealth & Family Office, an SEC-Registered Investment Advisory Firm. While challenging, the rewards far outweigh! It is such a joy to grow a firm that places the Advisor in the center of their relationships and allows them to thrive financially and in a streamlined ecosystem that provides concierge-level solutions to complicated families.

Walking away from the security, infrastructure, and reputation of a large institution to build an independent firm required conviction, resilience, and a clear vision. I believe clients deserve comprehensive, unconstrained advice that addresses not only investments, but every aspect of their wealth, family, business, and legacy. That belief became the foundation for Exceptional Wealth.

Looking back, those challenges taught me that growth often requires stepping into uncertainty. They strengthened my commitment to helping clients create clarity from complexity and gave me a deeper appreciation for the courage it takes to pursue an exceptional life and legacy.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
Much of my childhood was spent outdoors in Canada – building forts, riding dirt bikes, hiking, picking saskatoons in the wilderness or tending the family garden alongside two generations. Seeing lives well lived by those before me, and having such a wide range of influences through my childhood set a high bar for what I knew to be possible, and cultivated a diverse range of interests. As a parent today, and in my professional guidance to others – my aim is to help people uncover the things that bring them joy, and then find ways they can spend more of their time, talent, treasure living in that unique ability and passion-center. Life is to short for anything less!
