Check Out Ada Capsay’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ada Capsay.

Hi Ada, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I showed interest in modeling many years ago but never fully committed to it. That was until my parents surprised me with a photoshoot for my birthday while we were in Minneapolis for my brother’s hockey camp. I hadn’t realized until that moment, but I felt the most like myself in front of a camera. After that day I began looking into modeling, agencies, castings and after a lot of trial I signed with an agency in May. I have done a variety of photoshoots, including a dance one and figure skating one! Two of my many passions. I like to consider myself a hobby-collector. I enjoy art (painting, drawing etc.), photography, piano, modeling. I also became a captain on my high school dance team as a sophomore and remain a competitive figure skater in the winter. This year I also joined student council as the broadcaster, once again putting myself in front of the camera!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I struggled a lot beginning modeling, coming from a small town it was hard to really get involved with big-city projects. I knew that I was passionate about this though and wasn’t willing to give up. I have a vision for my life and want to achieve it. I believe anyone can. In figure skating and dance I faced challenges in competition, when your entire sports performance is smushed into a 2-3 minute routine. Many people overlook the endless nights of practice, it feels as though your entire worth is determined in 2 minutes.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Art:
I am a creative individual and have always been this way. I can’t even remember when I began art because I was so young. It always came naturally to me, I just wing it and it works out, thats why I don’t like art classes. I like to be in charge of what I do, not be lectured about the “proper” way to create. My favorite thing to draw/paint are animals in human situations. Some examples of my work include, a lion with hair rollers or a manatee painting. I am proud of being entirely self-taught, I love learning but I don’t like to be told what to do in something I already understand. I think art should be fun, it doesn’t always need to have a deeper meaning.
Modeling:
I work in commercial/print modeling, since I am only 5’2 and 3 quarters (which is basically 5’3, which is basically 6’1) there are not many options for me in editorial work. On projects I think I’m know for being cheerful, as a pom dancer at my school, I am always smiling on the sidelines, also being nicknamed smiley I think I’m know for my pep. I’m most proud of my ability to manage modeling after having so many commitments. (Figure skating, dance, student council, art, school, social life.) I am always going to be a positive person on set, cheering on others because I believe others success doesn’t impact yours.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I think you always have to keep your head up in modeling, you often you hear more no’s than yes’s, but that should only motivate you more, not break you down. You don’t always get what you want to hear and I’ve learned that through modeling. But I am dedicated to creating the life I want, therefore pursuing my dreams.
In art it’s good to be inspired by others while also having your own creative eyes. After working on a project for hours it feels so good to be satisfied with your final piece.
