Today we’d like to introduce you to Maria Marquez.
Hi Maria, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I have always experienced myself as someone connected, creative, and spiritual. As a little girl, I spent a lot of time in books, in fantasy worlds, and in my dreams (awake and asleep) traversing my mind and body, which I found to be endless conduits for in-and-out of body experiences. I learned, young, that my connection to the Earth was an anchor into this body and to everything around me. I remember the very first time I stepped onto the sand in front of the Ocean, it felt as if my chest was breaking into pieces as what I can now only recall as the experience that made me whole. I have spent many years since then understanding the ways in which I channel the energy of the water into the healing services I offer. In early adulthood, in the midst of chaos and change, change that I was experiencing very consciously for the first time, I turned to the practices of yoga, movement, tarot, and prayer. I have been evolving my understanding of spirituality and my craft as an intuitive, a reader, and a companion in healing, for the last ten years.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My journey has been, more than anything, a journey of the Soul. The challenges I have experienced along the way have been internal struggles in which my heart and spirit were ready to expand in ways that I was unsure of how to navigate at first. When I started feeling the desire and calling to do readings and wellness events publicly, I did not know how to start, or compared my path to that of others, and this left me feeling that things had to be “just right” for me to be able to answer my inner call. So, I kept a lot of readings and events private, within my closest circle, for many many years. Eventually, the inner yelling to live more authentically was so big that I had no other choice but to have faith in myself. I spent many months wondering “what will this look like?”, and sometimes I still feel doubt creep into my mind, in which I wonder where my little spiritual business may be going, but I have found ways to lean into the excitement and joy of it all, and more than anything – allow for things to unfold.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Today, I am many beautiful things in this life, a mystic, psychologist, curanderismo apprentice, intuitive, evolving medium, psychic, and channeler. I weave my extensive background in trauma-informed practices, ancestral wisdom and practices, and spiritual essence into spaces that invite grounding, renewal, and action. I am a Queer, Mexican, Momma, who loves to bring passion and love into everything I do. My work centers slowing down, embodiment, ritual, and connecting to the inner compass within us all. More than anything I enjoy walking alongside others who are reconnecting to themselves, the earth, and the unseen threads.
I specialize in spiritual readings that offer individuals and couples an opportunity to connect to themselves, to their spiritual side, to their ancestors, and to each other. I integrate my psychology background in everything I do, and offer wellness-oriented experiences for groups of people as well. I am known for meeting people with a calm and grounded energy, to offer support as they reconnect with their own inner resonance, with their joy and rest, in spaces that offer people the opportunity to enjoy a mystic dance with themselves.
Any big plans?
I am enjoying this phase of my business and really want to spent some time enjoying this part. I love meeting the wonderful people that I get to connect with through my readings and wellness experiences. It has already expanded my worldview in so many ways, as every time I get to sit with someone through a reading, I come home even more deeply into myself, and my own body. I am excited to continue to see the ways in which this unfolds. I do have exciting plans underway with my partner, Ana, who is bringing spiritual goods into MariMarMusings in the form items people can buy or custom order to deepen their rituals and practices.
