Today we’d like to introduce you to Anexis Morales.
Hi Anexis, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Anexis Morales, and I’m a sports photographer, visual storyteller, and creative professional from Yabucoa, Puerto Rico, currently based in Miami, Florida. My journey began in 2010, driven by a passion for photography, visual communication, and the power of images to tell stories that connect with people.
With a background in Communications and Graphic Design, I gradually built a career that combines photography, video production, design, and storytelling. Over the past 15 years, I’ve had the opportunity to work across sports, editorial, documentary, and cultural projects, collaborating with athletes, teams, organizations, and media outlets.
Sports photography has become one of the most important parts of my journey. Covering baseball, soccer, and other sporting events has allowed me to capture not only the action but also the emotions, personalities, and stories behind the competition. My experience includes Major League Baseball, Major League Soccer, the Puerto Rico Winter Baseball League, the World Baseball Classic, and the Caribbean Series.
Beyond sports, my work has also been shaped by my interest in nature, culture, and human experiences. I believe photography is more than documenting what happens in front of the camera; it is about understanding the people, environments, and stories behind each moment. That anthropological and social perspective is something I bring to every project.
Building my career as an independent creative professional has taught me resilience, adaptability, and the importance of creating opportunities even when the path is uncertain. Moving from Puerto Rico to Miami has been another important chapter, challenging me to grow professionally, expand my network, and pursue new opportunities in the sports media industry.
Today, I continue developing my work through Anexis Morales and Orza Media, with the goal of creating compelling visual content for athletes, teams, brands, and media organizations. I want to continue growing as a sports photojournalist and documentarian, working on meaningful projects that combine strong visual storytelling with a genuine human perspective.
Looking back, my journey has been about persistence, learning, and staying committed to the craft. I’m excited about what comes next and about the opportunity to keep telling stories through images, both in sports and beyond.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Building a career as an independent photographer and creative professional has come with many challenges, from finding consistent work and financial stability to navigating a competitive industry where opportunities can be difficult to access. There have been times when I’ve had to wear multiple hats, managing everything from photography and video production to graphic design, marketing, and client relationships, often while figuring out how to take my career to the next level.
One of the biggest challenges has been creating opportunities for myself, especially in sports photography, where access, relationships, and experience play such an important role. I’ve had to be persistent, reach out to organizations, build connections, and prove the value of my work. Moving from Puerto Rico to Miami has also brought new challenges, including rebuilding my network and finding ways to establish myself in a new market while continuing to pursue my long-term goals.
There have been moments of uncertainty and frustration, but those experiences have taught me resilience, patience, and how to adapt. They’ve also reminded me why I started in the first place. Photography is not just a job for me; it’s a way to tell stories, connect with people, and document moments that matter.
I’ve learned that success doesn’t always happen as quickly as you hope, and sometimes progress means continuing to show up even when the results aren’t immediate. Every challenge has helped me grow, both professionally and personally, and I’m still learning, evolving, and working toward the opportunities I know I’m capable of achieving.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a sports photographer, photojournalist, and visual storyteller with more than 15 years of experience in photography, communications, and creative production. My work focuses primarily on sports, particularly baseball and soccer, but my background also includes documentary photography, nature, culture, and community storytelling.
Throughout my career, I’ve worked across photography, videography, graphic design, and digital content creation. This combination allows me to approach projects from different perspectives, whether I’m covering a live sporting event, creating content for an athlete or team, producing portraits, or developing visual campaigns for organizations and brands.
In sports photography, I specialize in capturing action, emotion, athlete personalities, and the stories that happen beyond the game. My experience includes covering Major League Baseball, Major League Soccer, the Puerto Rico Winter Baseball League, the World Baseball Classic, and the Caribbean Series. I enjoy working in fast-paced environments where anticipation, timing, and the ability to recognize meaningful moments make all the difference.
What I believe sets me apart is my anthropological and social approach to visual storytelling. I don’t see photography as simply capturing an image; I see it as an opportunity to understand people, their environments, and their experiences. I’m interested in the human side of sports—the preparation, sacrifices, relationships, emotions, and cultural connections that often go unseen. My background in communications and graphic design also helps me understand how images can be created and delivered to connect with different audiences.
I’m most proud of the journey I’ve built independently, the opportunities I’ve created for myself, and the experience I’ve gained working across different industries and communities. Being able to bring my camera into professional sporting environments and document athletes and events at significant moments in their careers is something I value deeply. I’m also proud of the versatility I’ve developed and my ability to adapt to different projects while maintaining my own visual perspective.
Ultimately, I want my work to do more than show what happened. I want it to communicate how it felt, why it mattered, and who was part of the story. Whether I’m photographing a major sporting event or documenting a personal journey, my goal is to create honest, compelling images that connect with people and have lasting value.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up in Yabucoa, Puerto Rico, I was curious about the world around me and interested in understanding people, places, and the stories that make each experience unique. I’ve always been someone who pays attention to details, observes my surroundings, and looks for different ways to express ideas creatively.
I’ve always had a creative side, and over time, photography became a way for me to combine that creativity with my curiosity about people and the world. I was drawn to visual communication because I realized that images could tell stories and communicate emotions in ways that words sometimes couldn’t.
Personality-wise, I would describe myself as observant, independent, curious, and persistent. I like learning new things, exploring different perspectives, and finding creative solutions to challenges. I’ve also always been willing to take risks and figure things out along the way, even when I don’t have everything planned.
Looking back, I can see how those qualities shaped the person and professional I am today. My interest in understanding people and documenting their experiences eventually became an important part of my approach to photography. I think that curiosity is still what drives me: the desire to explore, learn, connect with people, and tell stories that might otherwise go unnoticed.
