Today we’d like to introduce you to Breezy Ritter.
Hi Breezy, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I’m actually quite new to the Denver area! I was raised all around Texas and spent the last 11 years developing my art and small business in Austin. I love Texas; it holds a huge part of my heart, and appetite for food to be honest. But I was ready for a huge creative reboot and had been eying Denver for about 4 years after visiting a bunch as an adult and building a community here. My move has been a driving force creatively, and it’s been so rewarding to find my corner of the universe.
I grew up with a very supportive and artistically driven family. We spent my childhood going to musicals and art museums and taking art classes outside of any sports I also participated in. I was never told, no, you can’t do this! It was, let’s try this out and see how you like it. Photography has always been the thing that was constant in my life, because both of my parents also had cameras attached to their hands, as did I after the age of 11. I’ve known since high school that photography was what I wanted to do in life. Another constant – Food! Don’t even get me started on how I last-minute bailed on culinary school because I chose to go to an arts-driven college for Photography instead.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Is the road EVER smooth for a freelancer? Aren’t we always working on ourselves? 🙂 If the road was too smooth, the journey would be less exciting. I moved here a year ago, several months into the pandemic, with a lot of people doubting I’d even go through with my move, to begin with. It was hard not to doubt myself and my strength to move my business to a new state and start fresh, especially during such an unprecedented time. But I’ve been building my brand for over 10 years, and I wasn’t about to let it go that easy. My biggest struggle this year has been finding my voice again in a new market and home and expressing that to my new community. A hard challenge, but a rewarding one, because it’s allowed me to completely rebrand and perfect my craft. Owning a small business is all trial and error and it continues to be a learning process!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a full-time freelance photographer with a focus on Branding and Lifestyle work. I still love to shoot events and weddings, but portraits have been a heavy part of my workload this last year. I have learned to love portraits all over again, and I’ve really enjoyed meeting all of my new clients here in Denver.
I’m definitely proud of the work I’ve done with Topo Chico and Yelp, and that I get to keep working with them here in Denver. I’ve been a fangirl of Topo Chico for years! I got so excited when they sent me to a few festivals to shoot for them in the past. They’ve always treated me like family and now I’m a Brand Ambassador for them and help work events. I’ve also helped a few dear friends build their own brands through my photography. When I work with my friends, we grow together and that’s just really exciting to me.
What I cherish about running my small business is the priority I hold for my clients and the need to help them represent themselves and their brands as best as possible. I do this by connecting with them and literally becoming friends with them because for any potential client that comes my way I want them to feel comfortable and trust me like they would someone they’ve known for years.
How do you define success?
I look at how happy I am at that moment and how much joy my job brings me at the end of the day. Success isn’t money for me, it’s the feeling I get when I know I knocked a photoshoot out of the park. It’s also having the ability to work hard enough to create the lifestyle and travel schedule that I need in my life to remain curious about the world around me.
