Check Out Jas Kitterman’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jas Kitterman.

Hi Jas, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Growing up, my family used to travel a decent amount and I wanted to capture those moments. So I started by making little vlogs and then eventually learned about photography. As a broke college kid, I started advertising my skills and soon after, it became a nice side hustle. I always dreamed that it would be my full-time job, but was forced to make it happen when I lost my primary source of income during the Covid-19 pandemic. Since then, I’ve enjoyed the opportunity to photograph hundreds of elopements, weddings, and portraits throughout the world.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I moved to Colorado in the midst of the pandemic to start a freelance career. Thinking back, it was not the safest risk, considering I had no connections and minimal support system. I’ve made plenty of mistakes as a young entrepreneur and am still learning how to navigate this industry. But I’m grateful for the community I’ve developed that always supports my business.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My work often reflects my own identity as a queer person of color. I aim to showcase diversity and celebrate equality through an artistic lens. Most weekends, I’m photographing a wedding and on weekdays I’m shooting branding and editorial sessions. I love to blend my two passions for creative portraits and unique stories. I’m grateful that I often work with people in the LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC communities to showcase underrepresented communities.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
One of the most important lessons I’ve learned is that I don’t know everything, nor will I ever. I want to always be learning and growing and open to criticism. Letting go of the need to appear perfect and asking questions has helped me immensely in my journey.
