Today we’d like to introduce you to Molly Solorzano. Them and their team share their story with us below:
Molly Olwig Solorzano is a photographer and art director based in Denver, CO. With her start in New Orleans, Solorzano began as a concert photographer, quickly transitioning to the fashion and marketing realms. She is currently the Lead Photographer at Artifact Uprising.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Discovering creativity is definitely not a smooth road, but it’s been worth it. As someone who copes with some ~intense~ depression and anxiety, I’ve found peace and motivation in photography because I’m able to really connect with my muses. Photography has brought me outside of my room and into life. I wasn’t formally trained; I have learned everything through my own form of studying—flipping through Vogue magazines, watching YouTube behind the scenes and practicing on-site as much as possible. Learning to fail has been the best teacher.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’d say my work is a blend of portraiture and editorial with a spice of fine art. Getting to really know whoever and whatever I am photographing is absolutely essential to my style, how I shoot and the end result. It’s that exchange of genuine energy and movement that brings life into my images. I’ve had my work shown in galleries in New Orleans and New York City, I’ve made the covers of a few international magazines, but I think I’m most proud that one of my pieces was curated into Vogue Italia’s PhotoVogue “Best Of”.
What are your plans for the future?
I’m looking forward to continuing to develop my style. I really look up to Elizaveta Porodina’s work because they have achieved a visual voice that is so uniquely theirs. I’ve been at this for only a few years, and I’m eager to know future-me and how my work will continue to become uniquely mine.
