Today we’d like to introduce you to Molly Adkins.
Hi Molly, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My transformation from high school teacher to sound healer started with a yoga class during summer vacation about 6 years ago. In that yoga class, there was mantra chanting and in another crystal singing bowls. Things started happening for me that summer. Not only was I becoming physically stronger, but I was also becoming happier and mentally and emotionally stronger. That is when I knew I need to learn more about this thing called sound healing and energy work.
Over the next 3 years, I completed certifications in sound healing for both group and individual sessions, intuitive life coaching, reiki, and yoga. During that time, huge shifts happened in both my private and work life. I was beginning to peer out of my depression and feel emotionally lighter each day as I was healing my own past trauma.
As I healed, I was able to start making major decisions for myself, not just following what I should be doing. The first big decision was to leave my marriage of 20 years. I had to face my fear of what people thought about me for failing my marriage. He was from S. Korea, but we met in Japan where I had lived for 11 years.
While in Japan, I was researching and learning to sing Japanese traditional folk songs (min’yo), and eventually got an MA in ethnomusicology from Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music. I have always loved singing but feared the stage. Once I got married I put my ambitions to be a singer behind me and focused on my new family. We moved to Indiana from Tokyo with our first baby, and I started teaching Japanese at the high school. I got stuck there, unable to take the risk of following my dreams. I think back now that singing was what kept me going, and not doing music was one of the reasons for falling into depression. Bringing the sound vibrations of sound healing instruments into my life again was the catalyst for making big changes.
In 2021, I decided to take a year’s leave from my teaching position and work in a holistic business during that time.
But, the universe had different plans for me. Even though my leave was granted, the job fell through. I was put in the position of selling my house because I couldn’t pay the mortgage any longer. After much soul-searching, I realized I could move anywhere in the world. So, not only did I sell my house, but I sold everything in it, except my sound healing instruments. I packed my two cats and instruments into my car and drove intrastate to a tiny house Airbnb in the Colorado Rockies.
It has been a little over a year now since I moved to Colorado, starting from ground zero, with no friends, and no business connections. Just trust in the universe it will all work out. In March, I will be celebrating my one-year anniversary of opening my own business in Colorado Springs: Sacred Sound Healing LLC.
In addition to one-off sessions for individuals and group sound baths, I have become an instructor for the Sound Healing Academy where I did my own certifications and am offering sound healing workshops around the state. I am also passionate about helping women leap into a holistic business from a 9-5 to align their energy with their business actions to be able to start making money more quickly. I truly believe that my quick success in my business is due to, first of all, knowing that I am aligned with my heart’s calling and, secondly, trusting the universe has my back.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
After moving to the mountains, every day was both joyous and challenging. I didn’t know anyone and had chosen a long-term Airbnb in the middle of nowhere. I could go for several days without seeing anyone in person. A month of frozen water pipes and spotty phone service encouraged me to move to Colorado Springs. Ironically, a month later the pipes in that apartment froze, and I had to move into a hotel with my kitties for a week. So, in a short four months, I moved residences four times.
As far as business, the biggest challenge was learning how to talk about sound healing to someone who has never heard of it before. Many think it is religious or woo-woo, but that just isn’t the case. There is very clear science behind using sound vibrations for healing the body physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Approximately 80% of the reasons why people go to the doctor today are because of stress. My clients, in either group or individual sessions, are seeking relaxation and stress relief. The sound vibrations and rhythms can create a deep sense of calm and relaxation and can result in fewer trips to doctors and therapists.
The various sound healing instruments I use, from crystal singing bowls to gongs to voice, activate healing and balance stagnant or excessive energy which, if not balanced, could create various diseases physically, mentally, and emotionally.
Private one-on-one sound healing sessions are very effective and can work quicker than talk therapy. I am able to hear how the sound vibrations interact with the client’s energy and based on what I hear, I am able to clear and balance their energy with sound vibrations. The balancing of energy is healing past trauma and possibly experiences deep-seated in the subconscious. As a result, they are able to move forward in their relationships and work and feel more joy and happiness in their lives.
What sets me apart is I am not only a practitioner but also a certified life coach, as well as an instructor of sound healing. I am highly trained and able to teach others how to hear energy through sound vibrations. I have an innate ability to hold a safe space for my clients as they progress through the healing process. I also bring my coaching skills to help my clients make sense of their experience in a sound healing session.
