Today we’d like to introduce you to Maurice Anderson.
Maurice, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Well, my name is Maurice Anderson and I live in Downtown Denver. I started doing business in Denver for myself around 10 years ago working with various shows including dunkexchange, sneakercon, and various other shows throughout the years. I first started with my car event called battle royal around 6 years ago. I was the first event to bring back the indoor car events and had the city going crazy. It took most of my savings but I was also able to be the first in Colorado to give away a car to one lucky attendee. I also did a few charity events giving money back to the community and to others in need. After about 4 shows the market took notice and more shows and things spawned in the Denver market and made me do some brainstorming. I then created feed the block which was a buy-sell trade concept with a twist. I wanted to use proceeds to feed the less fortunate or give back to a community project.
The show, in the beginning, was hard to start from the ground up sourcing all 50 pairs of off-white dunks, the bodega pop-up, boba stand, and almost 100 vendors in attendance. The show was a hit and we accomplished so much including this interview. So, this feed the block I teamed up with meals of dopeness and was able to feed over 250 people with hot meals. It was so rewarding we plan on doubling that number and making a bigger impact on the city for my next event
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Struggles I have had along the way was my confidence in making stuff happen, the money/ funding aspect, and planning and organizing a lot of this by myself. When you’re alone trying to get to the top it’s rewarding seeing it all come together but maybe more support will come on the future!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a graphic designer, photographer, and videographer. I started with graphic design and stuck with it but that’s what’s been taking me to places all over the world. I would say I’m most proud of my latest project the time machine. It’s a retail box truck that’s parked downtown in front of vices sneaker boutique in dark and light blue hues, featuring sports icons including happy Gilmore. The thing that sets me apart from others is …. I don’t say I can’t do it I say “I can do that“ and figure it out from there
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
For me, I post on my social media daily calling it the program. Monday program, Tuesday program and etc., etc. showing people the things I do on the daily. It helps the creative juices flow to get a routine going for me which has helped me with networking. They ask for a portfolio and they see my social media and accept that as my portfolio
