Community Highlights: Meet Oren Bregman of Mobile Studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Oren Bregman.

Hi Oren, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
I was signed to a record contract with music label Traxside as a teenager out of southeastern Michigan; in large part thanks to the guidance and knowledge I received at local teen center The Neutral Zone. It was there that I found my passion for music through workshops which allowed youth to learn to rap and produce beats under experienced hip-hop artists.

Fast forward to today where I spend my time in Denver with my band Coast to Ghost, and use the music resources at my disposal to give back to the young artists of the community just as was done for me when I was growing up. My nonprofit program Mobile Studio Inc brings music recording equipment to underserved youth in the Denver metro area through the use of a traveling music recording studio.

Mobile Studio provides students with free music instruction and recording services as a means of promoting social & emotional development as well as the building of leadership skills. Our vision at Mobile Studio is for every student to have access to music resources in order to make their voice heard and speak out against the injustices faced in their communities while becoming the best version of themselves in the process.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Founding the Mobile Studio nonprofit program was and continues to be the most challenging and rewarding experience of my life. We recently just received our first ever grant; (we love you Denver Music Advancement Fund), but behind that was years and years of hard work and fundraising from an entire group of dedicated individuals who believed in our cause. In the four years from the inception of the idea to our actual program launch during our June summer camps, I worked in just about every job from construction to mechanic work to delivery to keep the lights on. Now that Mobile Studio is finally getting off the ground, I can look back and say I’m extremely thankful for those experiences as they taught me an incredible amount.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Mobile Studio?
Via our mobile recording studio, we bring audio equipment and guidance straight to the schools and communities that need it the most. We are kicking off 2022 at Contemporary Learning Academy (CLA) in downtown Denver with our emcee workshops designed specifically for students to create their own music through collaboration and development. Our curriculum is molded around creating an inclusive, safe space for students to express themselves and grow. Our focus is on middle and high schools, but we do have opportunities for younger age groups as well.

We are a registered vendor in the Denver Public School system, but as we continue to grow in the area, we are looking forward to going wherever we are needed- throughout Colorado and beyond. We have also been known to participate in/throw events for the community, and fortunately the mobile nature of our work makes that extremely easy to accommodate. Our studio is able to set up inside or outside, all adhering to CDC guidelines involving sanitizing and other anti-covid practices.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Nobody accomplishes anything alone. I could shout out literally hundreds of people here, all of whom without their help I never would have got to where I am today. It was thanks to the support and faith that was instilled by those around me that I was able to carve my own path. In every aspect of my life -from my career as a musician to the establishing of Mobile Studio- there was family, friends, and role models in the community that shaped and taught me as a human being.

There are those people that motivate and encourage you to never give up. If you embrace these people and build the right team for your journey, nothing can stop you.
