Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessie Belisle.
Hi Jessie, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I am a French-Canadian artist, I moved to Denver in Dec 2020 from Montreal with my husband. We both met in burning man, he was from San Francisco at the time. We chose Denver to be our new home. Before moving, I’ve never even visited the state! how crazy is that! We took the road from San Francisco, stopped by Joshua Tree, few parks in Utah, and established ourselves in Denver.
It was definitely scary to leave Canada during Covid, and start an entire new life here. I had no idea where to start and how to put myself out there… I started painting over 10 years ago. I’m a self-taught artist, and my work is fueled by my Reiki practice and my love for nature. I had the chance to exhibit in different galleries in Canada, and I decided that moving shouldn’t feel like a challenge but more an opportunity.
I met so many beautiful people here! I’ve been invited in different group exhibit and felt quickly part of the community. I am more than grateful about all the beautiful opportunities so far! Never underestimate the power of Instagram. It was such a good way for me to meet other inspiring artists.
Nothing inspires me more than nature so Denver have boosted my creativity to a whole new level! I produced over 30 abstract paintings last year! This March, I am launching a new series of landscapes, and I am so thrilled to share that with y’all!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I think my biggest struggles was staying confident and not judging myself because I didn’t study arts. I went to school to be an optician. I’ve always been creative but didn’t knew at a young age that I wanted to be a visual artist. It came later in my life when I realized painting was necessary for my mental health.
The other struggle was finding my signature. I believe it’s important to explore and try everything we feel like without feeling bad that our style is evolving a lot. I also think it is important to create something pure, not trying to recreate what we find beautiful around. It can be hard to not let ourselves be influence by what the people we admire produce. The only way to find my signature was to create NON-STOP. The more you create, the more the patterns reveals themselves!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Each work I create is a story. My paintings navigate in different dimensions, exploring collective thoughts, the real and UNREAL. They exist in a place where vision is superfluous and intuition is my tool. My paintings are a perfect balance between harmony and anarchy.
Using brushes, rollers, spray paint, and pastel, I work with layers applying different techniques to create depth and texture. The relationship between the different mediums is my motivation. Modern colors act also as tools so that my paintings emulate the rhythm of nature and life.
I translate my energy piece by piece so that each work can have its own effect on my viewers. Translating my knowledge as a reiki master is absolutely fundamental for me. I am passionate about the power of colors; I am fascinated by the impact a piece will have after leaving the studio. Intention behind the creation, respects the principles of reiki, influencing the energy that the canvas will carry. The focal points determined according to a sacred geometry, applied subtly, allow the works to respect natural laws.
I create what I believe in, here and now, connecting my essence. Welcoming all universe to universe.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I HIGHLY believe in taking risk. I think the only way to know where to go, is to do the things you are the most scared about. Fears is a big motivator for me. Every time I took a step in my career, it was by trying something new and making mistakes. It’s simple, I always follow my heart and not my head. The heart knows how amazing you are, how great you can do! My heart also led me to my husband, my new life, and happiness that I could ever dream of. It’s so far, the biggest leap of fate I’ve ever did!
