Meet Trailblazer Whitney Cypert

Today we’d like to introduce you to Whitney Cypert.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Whitney. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’ve loved clothes and fashion for as long as I can remember! As a plus sized woman in a society that prioritizes “skinny”, I’ve struggled with my body image often. I don’t look like the models in magazines or most of the style bloggers I see on Instagram.

I wanted a creative outlet, a place to share my daily outfits. One day, I searched the hashtag “plussizeblogger”’ and was happy to find an entire community of plus size women who were also style bloggers. They inspired me and left me feeling confident. Not long after that day, I decided to begin sharing my daily outfits on Instagram, which led to meeting new friends and working with brands to create content. My main goal is to help other plus size women have a place where they can come to see a body that resembles theirs and to inspire them to step out of their comfort zone with clothing. I still have a ton of work to do to get to where I want to be, but it’s been a fun journey so far!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I think for me, it’s been fairly smooth but with a few bumps. I’m my own “boss”, which is both good and bad depending on the day. Some days, I’m motivated, some days I’m not. The main “bump” I come across is feeling unmotivated and not confident. Some days, I feel beautiful and stylish and some days, I feel the complete opposite.

My advice would be to remember that every single person has good AND bad days. That’s normal. Try to figure out something that will help get you through your bad days. Self-care is important. Drink coffee. Take a bath. Blast Taylor Swift. Whatever it is that helps you, feel happy. Also, remember that a bad day is just that, a day. It doesn’t define you or anything else. Tomorrow is a new day.

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I am a plus size style blogger/Instagram influencer. I focus mainly on affordable everyday style. Being a size 16/XL in the Instagram style world is something that sets me apart from most of the other style bloggers. My goal is to inspire other plus size women to step out of their comfort zones, and to feel confident in their clothes.

So much of the media coverage is focused on the challenges facing women today, but what about the opportunities? Do you feel there are any opportunities that women are particularly well positioned for?
Yes, absolutely! Women are smart. They are strong, caring, passionate, and hard working. I truly think women are well positioned for anything they want to have.
