Meet Chris Crew of The Blue Collar Success Group

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Crew.

Chris, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Baking a cake and owning/operating a bakery are two different skill sets. Just like being a great plumber, electrician or HVAC tech is not the same as owning and operating a service business. I was a great technician but my first stint of being in business was tough because I did not know the business part of the business. You may say that to be a business owner that I should have went to college or to school for that but not all people learn well in the classroom. I was fortunate enough that I went to work for a progressive-minded business that started to teach me the business end of being a great home service business. Fast forward to 2019 I had built a service business that served multiple markets and we were in over 150 homes per day serving homeowners with their electrical needs. I was able to sell my portion of the business to my partner. This allowed me the opportunity to do what my passion was, what I was put on the planet for. Help others learn what I learned without paying the painful price.

Today I get the opportunity to help other home service business owners to improve their business knowledge. The industry as a whole has somewhat of a stigma that they are not professional or they don’t understand how to deliver great customer service. The Blue Collar Success Group was started by Kenny Chapman who owned a successful plumbing and HVAC business. His p[passion was like mine. He wanted to help other business owners to change their perception of the industry while providing a quality lifestyle for those team members who worked for them. Because of my decision to sell my business, it allowed Kenny and myself to join forces in changing the lives of our clients through training and coaching.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Learning can be painful, so can failing at something. The learning curve for what we do today was big. We are no longer operating a home service business we are teaching others how to increase their skills as owners, how to market their services, how to recruit the right people, how to train them, and how to ensure that they are delivering a world-class service experience. That is a new skill set that we had to develop.

We’ve been impressed with The Blue Collar Success Group, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Clients seek us out for freedom. Freedom from things they no longer want to do in their business and freedom to do what they want in business. Our brand Blue Collar is often imitated, but never duplicated, because of our approach in training and coaching. We are not a one size fits all “best practices” group. We coach businesses based on their unique market and their unique business. Regardless of the size of a business what their budget or goals, we want to help them build a home service business that will run itself!

The Blue Collar Success Group offers live and online training & events designed to instill confidence and competence for every team member.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
We do use Asana as our project software, it is also app-based. Our founder runs a podcast called Leadership In A Nutshell. It is 15-20 minute session designed for driven entrepreneurs.
