Today we’d like to introduce you to Gregory Atkins.
Hi Gregory, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
Atkins Enterprises LTD is a Colorado Limited Liability Company. We launched as a medium-duty, general-purpose hauling service in April 2018. We started with two small trailers. Just my son Matthew and me. We learned after a few starter jobs that there is a lot more to haul than we expected. At this point I decided to do some homework, starting with relationships. I visited all of the disposal sites, recyclers, and donation sites in the area… any delivery point that we would have the potential to interact with.
I introduced myself, told them about my business model, asked about their organization, and let them tell me the best way to interface with their operations. I also joined a couple of hauler groups on social media, attended a few meetups, and did a good bit of research on the net. We worked hard to apply the best practices that we learned. We made mistakes… learned from those mistakes and continued to press for improvement in every aspect of the business. Today, we are a small business with a modest fleet of trucks and trailers but, we have been blessed and able to expand every year since we launched. Atkins Enterprises is licensed to operate, insured, and Veteran owned and family-operated.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Definitely. We learned the hard way that the most important key to success, in every job is preparation. Many of the smaller jobs can be set up with pictures from the customers. If there is any doubt about the scope of a job or for large jobs we always do an on-site survey prior to getting on-site so that we can develop a basic plan of attack before we get there. The hardest lesson we learned was to “Go in heavy” on every job.
We didn’t do that in the beginning so it caused delays to the customer and was not good for our brand. Today when we arrive at a job site we have all of the tools/equipment on hand that we might possibly need to get the job done. The administrative side of a business is extremely tough to learn. Bookkeeping, scheduling, marketing, responding to customer inquiries… very tough. Over time I developed a “Flow” that works well for me
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
The owners/members are Gregory L. Atkins (President) and Ann Kathryn Atkins (Vice President). Atkins Enterprises is licensed to operate, insured, and Veteran owned and family-operated.

From the beginning we have been driven to improve from each job experience, to leave a small footprint, and to make the most pleasant experience possible for our customers and we genuinely enjoy each other on the job site.

What were you like growing up?
I grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. with 2 brothers and 1 sister. I’m the second oldest. I was a bit shy as a kid but it was hard not to be noticed because I was always bigger than everyone else. Grew up in the “burbs”, close enough to town but closer to the woods. Great childhood. Many adventures in the woods behind our house with my brothers and sister… wouldn’t trade my childhood for anything I was a very athletic kid.
I played baseball and Basketball growing up and was on the basketball teams through high school. Played for a bit in college but dropped out for the Army. I recall that I could never resist taking things apart to see how they worked. I almost never got them back together properly though. I guess that’s why I went into Avionics in the military and network engineering as an adult.
