Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Olsen.
Hi Megan, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was a stay-at-home for 6 years and I have two little boys ages 4 and 7. I have always loved eyelashes and used to wear strip lashes until one day I decided to get lash extensions. I was hooked and got obsessed. My lash artist inspired me to go ahead and made me feel confident that I could make a career out of this. Immediately I signed up for school and became an esthetician.
While I was in school I started learning everything about lashes and got a kit to start practicing at home. I watched 1000 videos on YouTube on eyelash extension tutorials. As soon as I was a licensed esthetician I signed up for my first lash class. I felt like it was best that I make the most of it and took a 5-day class that went over all of it. I was certified in classic, volume, and mega-volume lash extensions.
I wanted to further myself and be able to offer my clients more services. So I took some more classes and got certified in microdermabrasion, dermaplaning, chemical peels, and microneedling. Education is so important and will always be part of my career. I love learning new things and recently just took another class for lashes.
Now I am 2x certified in mega volume lash extensions. It’s been 4 months since I officially started my own business and I can’t wait to see how far I can go. Working for yourself is hard but well worth it in the end. Previously I was working for a salon and hated it. They take most of your money and I just didn’t fit in there. Now I’m doing a booth rental from another lash artist in Fort Collins and it’s been great!! She is not only a great mentor but has become a good friend.
My business is called Luxe Lash and Skin. My services include lash extensions (classic, hybrid, volume, and mega volume), lash lifts and tints, waxing, facials, and dermaplaning. I intend on offering more services soon such as chemical peels and then microneedling. I’m thankful for the people who truly believed in me and continue to love and support me!! I wouldn’t be where I’m at without them!!!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
All while finishing school and starting my own business I ended up in the hospital a year ago with some major health problems so it’s kinda been a scary road but I’m getting better. Also, I’m trying to get out of a bad relationship with my children’s dad so that’s been rough. I don’t like talking about my struggles but I know there is growth from it so I like to just be honest and real when it comes to me. My kids are my reason to not give up and keep pushing forward.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Eyelash extensions are my thing and what I love to do all the time. I wake up thinking about lashes and go to bed dreaming about lashes. If you look at my photo gallery on my phone all you would see are tons of people’s eyes. I take pictures of all my work so I can study each of my client’s eyes and think about what would be better or what I could change to make their eye appear more open. The awesome thing about lash extensions is they accentuate your eye and enhance your natural beauty.
You have to be careful though because you can change the shape of somebody’s eye and make them appear tired. They say it can take 2 to 3 times to get the look you are trying to achieve so that’s why I’m constantly looking to see what curl, length, and dimension will best suit each one of my clients. I also keep good notes on each client and even after each visit whether it’s their first or 50th time coming to see me I make sure I write any changes and what I did each appointment.
What are your plans for the future?
To see my business flourish and grow to make a lucrative career out of this. To be able to stand on my own two feet and support me and my children.
