Meet Melissa and Ray Trout of Under the Garter in LoHi neighborhood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Melissa and Ray Trout.

Melissa and Ray, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Ray and I both had creative backgrounds and I was desperately looking for a hobby that was feminine. Ray was racing motorcycles at the time, we have two boys and even our dog was male. Everything about our lives felt very masculine. We thought this business would be fun and creative, but we quickly realized it was so much more. A boudoir is an amazing tool for empowerment. Many of our clients have told us that their boudoir session was literally life-changing and has had a positive impact on every area of their lives. We believe that everyone needs and deserves that, so we’ve since expanded our business to include EVERYbody.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It’s been a surprisingly smooth road. We feel like we were meant to empower our clients and take beautiful photos of them!

Please tell us more about what you do, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
We only do boudoir photography. We’re one of the few (maybe only?) boudoir studios in Colorado that cater to men, women, and couples. What has set us apart from the beginning is the experience we provide. Our 5-star reviews are full of clients saying how comfortable they felt during the session and how much fun they had with us. We really take our time with clients so their true personalities can shine through in the photos. And we make sure every client leaves with a gift bag full of high-end beauty and skincare products, chocolates and champagne.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
We’ve been very lucky in our business: from the talented stylists we use to the gorgeous studio we happened to find only moments after it had been posted online, to the fun and interesting clients we see each day.
