Life & Work with Noah Westbrook

Today we’d like to introduce you to Noah Westbrook.

Noah Westbrook

Hi Noah, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
Originally from Maryland. Upon graduating with a degree in business, I left the East Coast to explore the West. I took a job in Yellowstone National Park for what I thought would only be one summer before returning home to Maryland.

My passion for wildlife and mountains then led me to Denali National Park, Alaska, and eventually to Breckenridge, Colorado. Photography occupies most of my free time. Traveling and hiking to capture glimpses of God’s creation.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Making your path in a region that neither I nor my family had ever been to was never easy. It took a leap of faith to leave all of my friends and family behind to pursue the life I wanted to live. Early on, it was challenging to convince my family that moving from place to place is sustainable for the long term.

Especially when I could have stayed at home and had a substantially higher income using my business degree. The toughest challenge along the way has been trying to develop a community when changing location multiple times. Even more so watching all of my loved ones’ lives continue without me back home.

Thanks – So what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
For work, I am a seasonal transportation shuttle driver. I know, probably not the job you would expect me to leave a career in business for! The truth is, work is a means of allowing me the pursing my long-term goals. I aspire to one day be a full-time wildlife photographer. The more time I get to spend exploring and capturing photos get one step closer to that goal. I am mainly known for my wildlife and landscape photography.

I believe my willingness to uproot my life and move from one location to another sets me apart from many photographers. I don’t want to just spend a few days or a week in an area. I take jobs that allow me to live in these areas for 5+ months at a time. Unless National Geographic wants to pay for me to travel the world, working seasonal positions is the way I can explore.

What makes you happy?
Being in the presence of God makes me happy. I feel his presence most when I get to wander around and capture his creations through the lens of a camera.

Ansel Adams is one of, if not the most influential photographer the world has ever seen. However, reading his story, it felt like he was always searching for something. I explore nature not because of something I am looking for, but rather something I already found. The love of Jesus and his presence in all things.
