Conversations with Danielle Spadinger

Today we’d like to introduce you to Danielle Spadinger.

Danielle Spadinger

Hi Danielle, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was going to school for something that was the complete opposite of Graphic Design and realized I just wasn’t doing what I love. I switched universities and explored more courses at my new university when I quickly landed in a graphic design course.

From there, I just went further into graphic design and I have no regrets now. Once I graduated from my university, I worked in the industry for a few years before deciding to freelance full-time in 2017. I now freelance with my clients and I am a contractor for a local agency.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s a rollercoaster. Some years are great and some are much slower with design work than others.

The last few years have been all over the place. I hit a lull due to the first year of COVID and having a child in the same year, the next year started slow but then picked up, and the year after that was slammed with work. This year has been much calmer but had some busy times.

So it can be a struggle when you want to be bringing in more money to support your family or it can be overwhelming with too many projects and not enough time due to having a family. It can be hard to find the right balance with the never-ending transitions that happen with life but I always figure it out.

I found that my balance is to take on less clients so that I can still balance caring for my toddler and give my clients more 1-on-1 attention during their projects. In the end, everyone has been happier with this adjustment to my business.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a graphic designer who primarily focuses on branding but also helps them with all their marketing pieces, website, and anything they need down the road. I want to make sure that I’m there to help my client through all their design needs for their business.

I typically work with fewer clients compared to other designers and I do that so that I can provide a more 1-on-1 personalized experience. It helps me focus on a few clients rather than bouncing from 10 different clients daily and feeling overwhelmed and stressed.
