Today we’d like to introduce you to Kendrick Kennedy.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Kendrick. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
In 2013, I graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Sports and Exercise Science from the University of Northern Colorado. However, I found my passion for helping people through fitness during my summer internship at the Northern Colorado Cancer Rehabilitation Institute. Shortly after my internship, I became a certified personal trainer and began working at a large well-known national gym. In order to provide my clients with exceptional training services, I earned additional specialty training certifications but after five years of changing lives as a personal trainer, I felt that I wasn’t making a big enough impact.
In 2018, I decided to go back to school to become a licensed massage therapist (LMT); I wanted to be able to further assist people with their physical and emotional wellness. Within 12 months, I became an LMT and decided to leave the corporate gym environment. I took a leap and started my own business: Unbound Massage Therapy & Fitness Transformations. My mission is to help as many people as possible move better, feel better, and live a healthier life.
I continue to seek more avenues in the health and fitness industry so I can not only influence as many people as possible but also provide my current clients with a wide portfolio of fitness activities. I’m currently working on attaining a spinning instructor certification and also plan on returning to school to obtain my doctorate in Physical Therapy.
Has it been a smooth road?
My life’s been filled with a tremendous amount of challenges. One of the most difficult times was when my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2014.
Let me describe my mother to you. She was a single parent who raised three boys in Germany. She worked multiple jobs to provide us with the best upbringing as possible. Although we didn’t have much, life was still filled with happy and fond memories because we had such a supportive parent. My mother is loving, caring, non-judgmental, and kind.
Since all of our family currently lives in Germany, when she was diagnosed with cancer, I had to be her rock. For anyone who’s had a close family member affected by this disease, understands the great hardship that comes with it. I had to remain emotionally strong for her while assisting her financially. Through positivity and self-care, she has managed to beat this disease.
Even though my mother has experienced such adversity in life, she remains positive, upbeat, and always wishes the best for everyone. She’s my inspiration and motivation; she’s my “why.”
We’d love to hear more about what you do.
For me, there’s no greater feeling than being able to make a positive difference in someone’s life. My mission is to help individuals on a personal level to improve their quality of life. Quality of life is defined as, “the standard of health, comfort, and happiness experienced by an individual.” Through massage therapy and personal training, I can help individuals live healthier and happier lives. I’m grateful for the opportunity to do what I do.
One thing that sets me apart is the fact that I encompass the aptitude to provide both personal training services and massage therapy to my clients. Understanding how their bodies move allows me to utilize specific massage techniques that assist in better recovery and rehabilitation. However, whether or not someone trains with me, I still provide the same quality of service and attention to detail to their massage therapy needs.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
It’s a well-known fact that Colorado has some of the most active cities in the country. This being said, the Denver metro area is a prime place to own a massage therapy or personal training business because people not only enjoy being active but also take pride in taking care of their bodies.
If someone were to start their own massage therapy or personal training business here, I would recommend that they strive to provide unique services to potential customers. Living in such a young, active, and healthy state means that people are aware of fitness trends but are always looking for something new.
