Meet Catherine and Jonas Leuenberger of Royal Stag Hats in Boulder

Today we’d like to introduce you to Catherine and Jonas Leuenberger.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Catherine and Jonas. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
We started six years ago with a few pieces of equipment, some felt and the dream to one day make products that we are gonna be really proud of. We had customers trusting and allowing us to make mistakes. We got better and picked up new tricks and techniques along the way. We are still operating out of our garage.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Hat making is a fairly secret craft. There is not that many of us out there generally speaking hat makers don’t necessarily share their knowledge. Techniques and guidance on the topic can’t just be googled and there is literally no books out there that address the topic. Also, a lot of the knowledge got lost with the crash of the hat industry in the 60s and will be lost forever.

Please tell us about the Royal Stag Hats.
We are hat makers. Our core business is custom made hats. We do small runs for retail every once in a while.
We make products that fit and last a lifetime. Our personal and hands-on approach with the customers might set us apart from others.
