Today we’d like to introduce you to Whitney Frost.
Whitney, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
After a traumatic brain injury, my junior year of high school left my dreams of being a medical doctor turned upside down, I spent many years exploring a new way to help heal and inspire others. I spent many years being the friend that everyone came to for advice and guidance. In the middle of my college career, I was in the middle of a Clinical Psychology course and underwent brain surgery for my TBI. This class kept me motivated and engaged despite tremendous obstacles in my personal life, that’s when I knew that this was what I wanted to do with the rest of my life! I’ve spent the last six years getting as much experience in the field as possible until I found what I was most passionate about; helping women and mothers during their biggest, most difficult transitions in life! As women, we are often times excepted to handle challenging times with grace and poise, without asking for help and I want women to know that it’s ok to ask for help!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No way! I intentionally put myself in difficult work environments and saw the really difficult clients and populations so that I would be prepared for this time. I wanted to know and feel confident in myself and my abilities to help the clients that walked through my door. Helping people is never easy, but it’s not supposed to be.
Peaceful Journies Counseling – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I own a mental health practice specializing in providing therapy to women during life transitions (parenthood, college, job changes, marriage, divorce, relationships, aging). I have specialized training in treating personality disorders, mood disorders (like Bipolar Disorder) as well as Depression, Anxiety, and general life stressors. What I’m most passionate about is motherhood! I have spent many hours and a lot of dedication shaping my practice to treat moms with pregnancy and postpartum related Depression, Anxiety, and mood disorders (PMAD). As a mother myself, this is something that really gets me going every day and motivated me to open my practice! Moms don’t get enough attention or care in our society, we need to do better for our moms! My practice is baby-friendly, child-friendly, and breast-friendly.
I am very proud to accept most insurance panels, including Medicaid, and I offer sliding scale payment options for my clients. I didn’t get into therapy to get rich, I got in it to help and heal people.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Having faced struggles and tremendous personal and professional obstacles from a young age, every morning that I am blessed with the opportunity to wake up to my beautiful family, smiling and healthy and I get to do what I love—inspire growth and healing with people that need it and want it most as well as challenge myself to be my best possible self; that success in my eyes.
