Exploring Life & Business with Aimee Straw of Aimee Straw with Cornerstone Real Estate Rocky Mountains

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aimee Straw.

Aimee Straw

Hi Aimee, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I feel fortunate to be in a place as wonderful as Summit County. Never having been here before making it our home, my husband and I decided to move to Colorado. With ambitions to play in the snow full time, we got jobs working for the resorts, in Keystone and Breckenridge. I am happy to say that a season turned in to several, and we have been able to put roots in to this incredible community. Working for the reservations department for Keystone and Breckenridge Resorts afforded me the opportunity to learn the lay of the land pretty quickly. Having a strong customer service background, I was successful in that position and soon started thinking about a career in real estate. I have always viewed my role in real estate as a customer service position, not sales. I am here to help you achieve your goals and not to sell you something. Through an acquaintance, I learned of a position opening up as a front desk administrator for a local real estate company in Breckenridge. I was hired, and happily worked and learned, and soaked up all I could for the next 2 years. At that point, I was looking to grow a little further professionally, and a call from a former co-worker about a broker assistant position couldn’t have been timed any better. After meeting with Todd and Barb Rankin, I knew I had found the motivated, smart, and enthusiastic team I was looking for to start my journey into being a broker myself. I thank the Rankins and Cornerstone Real Estate for giving me the solid foundation I stand on and continue to grow my business with today.

Summit County holds a special place in many hearts. Whether you live here full time, visit occasionally, or have only been once, I think it’s safe to say you’ve shared moments that have become lasting memories. This place is unique in that we are all here because we want to be. Many, like myself, have moved here from far away places and have no intention of leaving anytime soon. Whether I’m hiking, biking, painting, snowboarding or even going to the post office, I am in awe of the natural beauty that surrounds us here in Summit. I love the people, the lifestyle, and plan on sharing my love of the mountain life with those around me for as long as possible. I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to get to know you, assist you in your real estate needs, or for the chance to just share my favorite coffee spot with you!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I moved thousands of miles away from home to a place where I knew nobody. That certainly made it a little challenging to get a career in real estate started. Finding the right mentors, getting a solid knowledge base under my belt through classes, trainings and experience in the field helped. And of course connecting with my community! I have volunteered with local non-profits and joined the Summit Rotary Club as well.

As you know, we’re big fans of Aimee Straw with Cornerstone Real Estate Rocky Mountains. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I never intended to get into “sales” which I think makes my brand more authentic. Prior to getting into real estate I worked in retail, restaurants, nannying and in the health care field – all of which is customer service related! I was a communications major in college with a minor in sociology so being the “people person” that I am, it makes sense that my communication skills and eager to please attitude has made me successful in real estate. Compassion and competence really are at the heart of what I do and who I am. It gives me great pleasure to help people purchase a home in their happy place, or even to sell it so they can trade the mountain for the beach life. I’ve been trained as a negotiation expert, expert buyers agent and listing professional. I’ve been in this field for 10 years and have begun mentoring new agents and become managing broker at my office.

What are your plans for the future?
I would love to continue to grow my business and my family! I don’t see either of those scaling up dramatically, the older I get the more I realize how precious time is and I’d like to remain in a place where I can maintain active participation in both areas of my life.
