Today we’d like to introduce you to Aaron Block
Hi Aaron, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
How I Started and Where I Am Today
Medicine has always been a significant part of my life, starting from childhood. My father is a family physician, and my mother a dietitian, so I grew up in a household where health and wellness were central themes. It felt natural to pursue a career in medicine, though I didn’t fully appreciate where that journey would lead me.
I worked my way through medical school and earned a Master of Public Health, followed by training in family medicine. Early in my career, I was recognized as a rising physician of note in my health network, balancing a full-time practice while serving on the board of health for Dayton Montgomery County, teaching at my old residency, and even starting a branch of a home primary care company. I mentored medical students and residents, always striving to give back to the next generation of physicians.
However, like many, my career took an unexpected turn when the pandemic hit. I found myself overwhelmed by the demands of practicing medicine during a once-in-a-lifetime crisis. The challenges of too many roles to lead and the pressure from increasingly demanding patients left me feeling like I had lost control over my life and my profession. I was working harder than ever but realized that I wasn’t fulfilled.
COVID-19 and he pandemic became a turning point for me. Realizing that if I wanted to reclaim my passion for medicine and regain control of my life, I needed to make a change. That change began with a move to Colorado, where, for the first time in my life, I chose where I wanted to live.
Before starting The Cove Concierge Medicine, I worked with Optum, doing full-time urgent care in a facility that functioned similarly to a small emergency room. It was an incredible opportunity to expand my procedural skills and perform in-depth diagnostic workups to keep patients out of the ER. But during this time, I came to two important realizations: First, access to quality primary care is severely lacking, even in larger cities like Colorado Springs. Second, large corporate medicine tends to prioritize business goals over patient care and provider well-being. Once again, I found myself sacrificing too much of my professional autonomy. My husband John, a primary care nurse practitioner, understood my frustrations firsthand and spent many nights brainstorming a sustainable solution with me. And finally…The Cove Concierge Medicine was conceived.
At The Cove Concierge Medicine, our vision is to create an environment where patients feel heard and cared for while fostering a sense of wellness for both providers and patients alike. We are simultaneously creating a space where we care for patients that are traditionally underserved: the Q+ population (our term for LGBTQ+ to be more inclusive) and the women’s midlife/menopausal population.
It’s been an incredible journey, and we are proud of the difference we’re making in our community.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The journey to where I am today has been anything but smooth. Internally, I had to come to terms with the pressures and burnout from corporate medicine, especially during the pandemic. But after deciding to forge my own path with The Cove Concierge Medicine, I encountered a new set of challenges.
Starting my own practice meant taking on significant financial risk, which is hard to stomach after finally overcoming the student debt I paid off. On top of that, I had to learn the business side of healthcare delivery—a world that had been managed for me in large organizations. The steep learning curve of running a medical practice, from finances to insurance to marketing, is both daunting and humbling.
One of the biggest obstacles was simply starting to build a practice that truly aligned with my vision—where patients would receive not just care, but quality, personalized care without the constraints of corporate interests. Thankfully, I wasn’t alone. An important ally along this journey has been MsMedicine, an affiliate that helped turn my vision into reality. They provided the guidance and support I needed to navigate the complex terrain of starting and running a practice.
These challenges, though difficult, ultimately pushed me to grow in ways I hadn’t anticipated. They reinforced my desire to create a space where patient care, provider wellness, and autonomy come first.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about The Cove Concierge Medicine?
The Cove Concierge Medicine is a family-run practice with a simple, yet powerful mission: to provide truly personalized, high-quality medical care that places patients at the center of everything we do. We are a physician-nurse practitioner team—myself and my husband, John,—working together to deliver care that not only meets but exceeds patient expectations.
Our practice specializes in family medicine, and we are proud to offer a wide range of services to meet the needs of our diverse patient population. One of the key areas we focus on is Q+ health, an area where we have both training and personal investment for patients on the gender and sexuality spectrum. We also emphasize women’s midlife and menopausal care, helping patients navigate a critical stage of life with the care and attention they deserve.
What sets us apart is our concierge model of care. In a world where healthcare often feels rushed or transactional, we take the time to know our patients deeply, to understand their unique needs and concerns. Our patients have direct access to us—whether that’s through same-day or next-day appointments, extended visit times, or direct communication with us between visits. We believe this approach fosters better health outcomes and a stronger doctor-patient relationship, which is the cornerstone of quality care.
I’m most proud of our commitment to this level of personalized care. We’re not just treating symptoms; we’re treating people, and we see the impact that personalized attention can have on our patients’ well-being. Our goal is to create a safe, welcoming environment where everyone—especially those in marginalized communities—feels comfortable seeking care.
At The Cove Concierge Medicine, we also offer specialized services like evidence-based hormone therapy, preventive care, chronic disease management, and comprehensive wellness plans tailored to individual needs. Whether you’re a member of the Q+ community, navigating menopause, or simply looking for a more personalized healthcare experience, we’re here to help you live your healthiest life.
Ultimately, we want readers to know that The Cove Concierge Medicine is about more than medicine—it’s about building trust, fostering wellness, and creating a healthcare experience that’s as unique as the individuals we serve.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
Castle Rock, Colorado, has been an incredible place to live and work. One of the things I love most is the abundant sunshine and the beautiful mountains that surround us. There’s something about the nature here that’s truly grounding—helping you recharge and find balance. The natural landscape offers so many opportunities for outdoor recreation, which I believe is essential for health and happiness.
Colorado, in general, supports a forward-thinking, environmentally-conscious mindset, and it’s refreshing to live in a place that prioritizes sustainability and cares about the environment. It’s inspiring to see so many people from all over the country drawn to Colorado for its natural beauty and the healthy, active lifestyle it offers.
Castle Rock offers the best of both worlds—it’s a smaller town with a strong sense of community, but it’s close enough to enjoy the amenities of the big city. We’re just a short drive from Denver and Colorado Springs, with all the cultural, dining, and entertainment options they have has to offer. It’s the perfect balance of small-town charm with the convenience of being close to everything.
