Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Cipriano.
Hi Brittany, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I am a 33 year old single Mama to a bright and beautiful three year old babygirl. I moved out to Colorado from Florida in seek of that ‘something more’ and a chance to discover my true potential. I have spent majority of my life being raised in and around the beauty industry. My Nanny & PopPop (paternal grandparents) owned their own Hair Salon where my PopPop cut hair, my Nanny did nails, and eventually my Anjon (Aunt Angela) went on to complete cosmetology school and provided hair and nail services as well. My Mom was estranged from her family and upon meeting my Dad, was quickly swept under my grandparents wings. They helped her through Cosmetology school as well and she has now been an astounding hair dresser and beautician for over 35 years and owns her own prestigious hair salon in Vero Beach, Florida. Growing up in the salons my older brother and I would pack our snacks, movies, and activities to keep us entertained in the break rooms or even found joy getting to assist in cleaning up between clients. I never foresaw myself being a hair dresser, so my earlier education years were more focused on healthcare. I was a physical therapy technician straight out of high school, I received my CNA certification while going through college studying to be an RN where I discovered my immense passion for helping others and providing a level of care I feel our healthcare system is in dire need of. I discovered I have a strong sense of leadership skills which then lead me to joining the U.S. Army as a combat medic and received EMT training during my time in the service. After being medically discharged, I found myself back in college trying to figure out how to combine all of my strengths and passions into a fulfilling and lucrative career. Fast forward to the COVID-19 pandemic, college transferred to a virtual platform. IBMC, a local tradeschool, was still offering in person/hands on education and I found myself registered to complete my 6 month Esthetics course. From here, everything just clicked. The limitless opportunities and directions in the beauty industry checked every box I had been trying to use to determine my career path. I fell in love with the Medical Aesthetics path and continued advancing my skillsets and perfecting my techniques. Collectively, I now hold over 10 advanced certifications (Phlebotomy, IV administration, Neurotoxin, Laser, Lymphatics, Dermaplaning, Chemical Peels, Microneedling, PRP, Intramuscular Injections, soon to be added is Dermal Filler, etc.) in order to provide my clients superior service and expertise. Simultaneously, building my reputation as a shark when it comes to managing and growing businesses. Throughout my experience one thing that I have continued to notice throughout the last 5 years of my career is how competitive and gate-kept the Beauty Industry is. In turn has caused a lot of mistrust, misinformation, and poor practice ethics leading to an increase in client injury from novice providers and decrease in satisfaction for clients. Since taking on my role as Manager at UpLift Beauty & Wellness MedSpa it has been my mission to change the current outlook and approach to all things Aesthetics. We focus on full transparency, informing and educating our audience through hosting events where I provide live, free demos and provide floor space for any attendee to experience the service and ask any questions. My approach to aesthetics is always being an advocate for my clients first and foremost, explaining the ‘WHY’ behind my recommendations. Building a foundation of trust and confidence with my clients to guide them on their skincare and beauty journeys to always provide optimal results and satisfaction. Empowering through education, training my staff on my advanced techniques and knowledge to further their skillsets and careers without the barrier of the cost of courses. It is my mission to eliminate barriers to those either seeking to invest in their self-care, as our skin is our largest organ system and first line of defense to external environmental factors, or those who seek my guidance to advance in their own careers. Breaking the barriers that have begun putting limitations on the Aesthetics industry is key to the success of everyone who walks into my treatment room.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Nothing thats worth it in life comes easy. It takes hard work, dedication and commitment to always strive to be the best version of yourself. Advancing in this industry is quite costly, on average $3-4k per certification, opening order minimums on medical grade products, constant advancement in technological devices and staying in line with what’s trending. This industry is constantly evolving, you’ve really got to be committed to staying on top and never start thinking you have learned enough. There is always room for improvement.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am well versed in many aspects of aesthetics, however I have to say my specialty and biggest passion is Neurotoxin. I take a full facial balancing approach in my consultations. Educating my clients on why I don’t just treat the frontalis (forehead) or glabella (11’s) by themselves and how the anatomy of our face all work in conjunction in order to achieve natural, long lasting results. I also specialize in techniques to minimize risk of bruising by facial mapping, in which I teach my staff to ensure consistency in the services my employees provide. Having the ability to give my clients their confidence using subtle adjustments and enhancements to their unique features is such a rewarding part of what I do.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I wouldn’t necessarily say I believe in luck- more so what you put in, you get in return. And in some cases ten fold! Having integrity, maintaining honesty with yourself and your clients, knowing limitations and setting appropriate expectations. Never thinking you are always right no matter your level of training or education and truly committing to your craft. BE AN ADVOCATE for your clients. I cannot express this enough. When you approach your passion with this type of drive, you set the stage for success.
