Life & Work with Heidi Guzman of Commerce City

Today we’d like to introduce you to Heidi Guzman.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I had originally gone to school to get a Bachelors. As I was finishing my degree I knew that I was never going to use it. I had very little interest in it but I wanted to finish what I had started.
I was a server for many years after that but I was starting to feel burntout and didn’t know what was next for me. When Covid hit I became unemployed and thought that that would be the perfect time to go back to school. It felt like I was starting over but it was honestly the best thing I could have done. I applied to esthetics school in March of 2020, started school in August 2020, graduation February 2021, and opened my business in June of 2021. I’ve been doing esthetics, grown my clientele and have loved what I do ever since.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I definitely went into opening and running a business very naively. Getting people to trust you isn’t easy and something people don’t always realize when opening a business is that you are in charge of everything. From financial to marketing, you have to figure out how to juggle many hats. Some days are better than others and you have to have the self-motivation to keep your business going.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I mostly work with acne clients and have helped many clear their skin. Everyone’s skin is different and come with their own sets of challenges.
Getting someone cleared and seeing how happy they are is the most rewarding. Along with that I feel like I have established lifelong trust and the friendships I have formed along the way have been amazing!

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I’m the eldest daughter of four and have always been an assertive and sassy girl because of it. I can definitely say I was stubborn and definitely still am. When I set my mind on something there is no changing it.
I also loved anything artsy and finding ways to be creative.
What is amazing about my job is that I get to express my creativity through my facials and when I get new ideas I get so excited!
