We recently had the chance to connect with The LVDIES of LVDY & Kathleen Hooper & Aubrey Lane and have shared our conversation below.
The LVDIES of LVDY & Kathleen & Aubrey, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
Being in nature <3 Simple as that…
When we’re in relationship to Mother Nature, we see who we really are and what really matters. The details in the rocks, the shades of color in the sunsets, the birds calling each other home, it’s all magic. When we’re outside, wonder is found with ease, a calmness washes over our nervous systems, and everything feels right.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hey there! We’re LVDY (pronounced “lady”) – a singer-songwriter indie-folk duo creating harmony-driven music rooted in connection, community, and soul.
Our sound blends folk, pop, and electronic elements, and our mission goes beyond the music. We love weaving ethereal harmonies with live looping, personal storytelling, and radiant joy — creating immersive, intention-driven performances that feel less like a show and more like a shared experience. As two LVDIES passionate about amplifying female voices and honoring our beautiful planet, we write and perform honest, feel-good songs rooted in love, gratitude, and deep appreciation for Mother Nature. We’re building a movement with our fans/friends (affectionately called the LVDYMOB) that invites people to feel deeply, gather intentionally, and celebrate the full spectrum of being human.
We’re Kathleen & Aubrey, and we met while studying abroad in New Zealand in 2012. Our friendship began with shared adventures in the outdoors and has since grown into a full-time touring journey of sharing our music everywhere we go. What started as busking on the streets of Denver and Boulder has evolved into playing larger stages and opening for artists who have long inspired us.
What makes LVDY unique is how we show up – not just on stage, but in the spaces between. Whether we’re playing a festival, leading a Savasana serenade, floating down a river, or sharing our behind-the-scenes journey with you, we’re committed to doing things differently. Our music is made for windows-down road trips, soul-folk-pop kitchen dance parties, and quiet campfire moments by the river. Wherever you’re listening, we hope it helps you feel a little more grounded, a little more alive, and a little more connected — to yourself, to others, and to the earth.
In June, we headlined our biggest show yet at the Bluebird Theater in Denver which was literally the best night of our lives! Right now, we’re touring nationally, releasing new music, collaborating with incredible artists, and deepening our community roots both online and in person. How can we make people feel more connected, more seen, more present and more alive? That question guides everything we do.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
I, Kathleen, grew up in musical theater. Throughout high school I enjoyed playing different characters, whether it was “Dancing Plate #5” in Beauty and the Beast or Aunt March in Little Women. The feeling of taking the stage always brings me a sense of personal power. Perhaps it’s the lights, the costumes, and all the people watching that makes for powerful moments, but ever since I was a kid, I’ve never felt more powerful than when I’m singing. I’ll always remember the feeling of singing the epic song, “I Dreamed a Dream” as Fantine from Les Miserables. Not only is it one of the most potent and emotional songs ever written, but as a 17 year old, this was a moment I knew my voice could invite people in, travel far and hold stories, ancient and important.
When did you stop hiding your pain and start using it as power?
While our music is geared towards positivity and has an uplifting nature, we don’t shy away from what’s real. LVDY music is tied deeply to who we are and how we move through both beautiful and challenging times, trusting that no matter how dark it gets, the sun will always rise again.
Our song “Gold” was written for a dear friend of ours who was going through a time of deep depression. It’s our reminder to her that we see her gold and that she isn’t alone. This message has reached people far and wide, as a movement to deepen the conversation around mental health and checking in on the ones we love.
Our song, “Move Slow” is about noticing all the little moments in life that create beauty, and moving slowly amidst a fast paced culture.
Our brand new song, “fleeting” is all about the things that bring us joy in our lives, and when we’re gone from this life, we will be remembered in the garden. Our pain has purpose, and weaving our stories into our songs is part of how we believe our music lands with our audiences.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
The music industry tells itself (and all artists for that matter) that streaming numbers, followers and viral social posts equate to success. We believe that our worth is connected to a different narrative.
We’ve seen firsthand how limiting and exhausting chasing algorithms can be, especially for independent, female-identifying artists. We’re here to build real connection. For us, success is about creating art that moves people, showing up in person and online with authenticity, and cultivating a lasting, intentional community that values presence over popularity.
The “starving artist” mindset is harmful, with the assumption that artists are expected to struggle endlessly. The music industry doesn’t make it easy to create a sustainable living through streaming music alone, yet we believe the industry underestimates the power of grassroots growth, aligned partnerships, and soul-driven artistry. We’re living proof that you can carve your own path — one rooted in integrity, impact, and collaboration – and still thrive.
We’re here to show that you don’t have to do it the way it’s always been done. You can lead with heart, support other people fiercely, and redefine what it means to “make it.”
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
“When I’m gone, when I’m done with the days we’re in, when I’m covered in grey and green, when I’ve seen all the things I’ve seen – make a bouquet of me. Gone…will my words circle in your head? Memories of the love we’ve shared. You can find me in the garden.” – LVDY lyrics from our song “fleeting”
On June 13th, 2025, we released a song called “fleeting,” touching on how every single moment we have in this life is precious and fleeting. One moment it’s here, and the next moment it’s gone. The beauty of impermanence. While writing this song with pals Jamie and Sean Oshima, aka the Oshima Brothers (these dudes ROCK), we started with a prompt. We took 5 minutes to each write a list of as many things as we could think of that brought us joy and love. Deep breath at sunset, old friends who listen, running barefoot just because…
Then we collected the phrases and dug into the sacredness of each fleeting moment.
When we’re gone, we hope that our music continues to hold and support, uplift and heal, move towards more kindness, and offer a sense of peace. We hope that people feel our hearts through our voices, and know they are not alone in their experiences. We hope people tell stories of two women who showed up with compassion, radiant joy, openness, and honesty. And definitely had A LOT of fun!
