Meet Jamie O’Kane of JE O’Kane and The Abundant Beans Podcast in South Metro

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamie O’Kane.

Jamie, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was born and raised in Golden, CO. After a ton of major hoping at CSU, I find that ahah moment when I took my first accounting class. The light went on and I thrived in the structure of the debits and credits. I started in a tiny firm doing the basic accounting functions then moved to a medium sized firm where I was the training & tax manager. I eventually went out on my own, seeking more work-life synergy and something different than your stereotypical accounting firm for myself and my team.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Ahahaha! No. As a CPA, I thought I know how to run a business, what people needed and what I wanted to provide. That has evolved so much over the last 5+ years and it continues to evolve. Some of my biggest challenges have been my tendency for analysis paralysis, staffing, creating something different than the normal tax shop and communicating our value. Growth in a sustainable way has also been a struggle.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the JE O’Kane and The Abundant Beans Podcast story. Tell us more about the business.
JE O’Kane CPA, LLC provides advanced tax planning & other high value services to women-owned veterinarian & dental clinics. We are passionate about women finding a foothold in industries that have in the past been male dominated and changing the game.

The Abundant Beans Podcast tells the stories of business owners and to provide content so that other business owners don’t feel so alone in their journeys. It has been a blast to interview my amazing network as well as meet more people with top industry knowledge and tips to help catapult others forward!

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I am not sure it’s been luck. I have done the work (and continue to) to build a strong network of like minded business owners. Nothing has fallen in to my lap however no major catastrophe have happened either. My desire is to help people in some way every time I see them or talk to them and I am convinced that mindset creates good karma 🙂
