Meet Jaclyn Wenaas of Bronzed Denver in Downtown and Cherry Creek

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaclyn Wenaas.

Jaclyn, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
When I graduated from the University of Florida in 2009, I found myself very confused (and broke) as an inexperienced, young adult in a bad economy. I accepted a marketing position at an architecture firm in Denver, bringing me back home to Colorado! During my first few years at work, I was unfulfilled and very pale after spending 60+ hours a week at a desk! Every time I traveled back to Florida, attended a wedding, bachelorette party, etc. I’d seek out a quick fix for a tan. I suddenly found myself paying for quite a few overpriced, underwhelming airbrush tans, or trying, and failing, to tan myself at home. I was confused as to why there wasn’t a reasonably priced, high-quality airbrush tan available in Denver and I thought that there might be an opportunity in the market to create one. I was excited by the prospect of starting my own business and be able to put my creative right brain and strategic left brain to use simultaneously. I knew I would enjoy the challenges of growing a business and fulfilling my creative passion, all while providing a service and experience that clients could enjoy… without putting their skin (or their bank accounts) at risk.

I started in my basement in 2010 (sorry, roomie) but have since moved to new locations. Bronzed now has two studios, Bronzed Denver – 6th Ave and Bronzed Denver – Delaware St. (The Beauty House) — which, upon client demand, has additional beauty services. The Beauty House is a one-stop-shop for your pampering needs. From custom organic tans, lash lifts/tints/extensions, brow tints/shaping, facials, to sugaring hair removal, we have it all.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
My biggest struggle was allowing myself to quit my full-time job to go for it! It wasn’t until 2016 that Bronzed became my only job focus.

Please tell us about Bronzed Denver.

We are proud to say that we are one of the few spots in Denver offering sugaring hair removal. Sugaring is a hair removal treatment that has been practiced for centuries throughout Northern Africa, Greece and the Middle East. A gel-like paste made from sugar, lemon, and water is used to pull hair out of the roots. It is by far one of the most gentle and ancient techniques that’s a natural alternative to lasers and one that lasts longer than traditional waxing.

The Bronzed Babes are the single most important factors at Bronzed Denver. So much of a client’s experience at Bronzed is based on their interaction with their airbrush, lash, brow, sugar, or facial artist. Our goal is to make the experience enjoyable, something the clients actually look forward to, instead of just a beauty chore. With my previous experience in the architecture world, I knew the Beauty House needed to have a strong sense of “place”, so the aesthetics of the salon were intentional: make the space feel like a welcoming mountain boho home. When clients enter, we want them to feel as though they’re catching up with a friend in a chill and relaxing environment.

We truly believe that people have a little extra bounce in their step and exude more positive energy into the world when they start their day with internal confidence and happiness.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would have cared less what others thought about me quitting my full-time job.
