Today we’d like to introduce you to Elan Jones.
Hi Elan, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’m not the most technical person in the room and that’s exactly the point. My role is to connect business strategy with the right technology so organizations can grow with confidence instead of constantly reacting to problems.
I was born and raised in Colorado. Playing sports taught me early that preparation and accountability matter, lessons that carried into college at Colorado State University, where I began to understand how relationships, leadership, and long-term thinking intersect.
After school, I started my career in the beverage industry, working face-to-face with customers, managing large territories, and learning how to earn trust one conversation at a time. It was hands-on, competitive work that built a strong foundation in business development.
I later moved into regional leadership roles overseeing sales and marketing efforts across multiple states, where my perspective on growth evolved. Real success comes from consistency, follow-through, and showing up when it matters.
In 2020, I transitioned into the technology space and joined eCreek IT as Director of Business Development. While our industry is always changing, the fundamentals don’t. At its core, the work is still about listening, building trust, and helping organizations operate more effectively, especially as cybersecurity, regulatory requirements, and data protection have become critical business priorities rather than just IT concerns.
Today, I help businesses shift from reactive technology decisions to proactive strategy, with a strong focus on cybersecurity, compliance, and long-term operational resilience. When technology is aligned and organizations are secure, it becomes an advantage instead of a constant burden. Being trusted in that role is something I take great pride in.
Outside of work, you’ll usually find me in the mountains, traveling with my wife, or spending time with our dogs. Colorado has always been home, and the balance it provides continues to shape how I approach both my personal life and work.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
If there’s been a consistent theme throughout my life and career, it’s change.
Career wise, I’ve stepped into entirely new industries more than once. Giving up everything to pursue another.
Each transition meant starting from scratch in many ways, learning new business models, navigating evolving regulations, and understanding what success looked like in a different environment. It taught me to stay curious, ask questions, and not get too comfortable.
Technology itself only reinforces that mindset. It evolves constantly, and with the rise of cybersecurity threats and growing compliance requirements, businesses are being asked to adapt faster than ever.
On a personal level, life changes have been just as important. Marriage, growing responsibilities, and the natural shifts that come with life have all reshaped my perspective and priorities. Those experiences have strengthened my belief that adaptability isn’t just a professional trait, it’s a core life skill.
Change can be uncomfortable, but I’ve come to see it as a signal for growth. The ability to adjust, stay grounded, and keep moving forward is what ultimately creates ones resilience.
As you know, we’re big fans of eCreek IT . For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
eCreek IT is a managed IT services and cybersecurity firm that helps organizations operate securely, efficiently, and with confidence. We work with businesses and nonprofits that rely on technology every day but do not want the stress or risk of managing complex IT systems on their own. Our role is to simplify technology, reduce risk, and make sure it actively supports the organization’s mission and goals.
We take a strategy first approach to IT support. Fixing help desk tickets is important, but real value comes from understanding how a business operates and aligning technology to where it is going. Our team focuses on proactive IT management, cybersecurity protection, compliance support, and long term technology planning so clients spend less time reacting to issues and more time running their organizations.
What truly sets eCreek apart is how we show up as a partner. We do not operate like an outside vendor. We work as an extension of our clients’ teams. Our technicians take the time to learn each organization, their people, and their workflows. That leads to faster resolution, better decision making, and honest conversations about risk, growth, and operational maturity.
Our core values are not just words on a wall. They guide how our team works every day. We Care. We Commit. We Learn. We Grow. We lead with integrity, take ownership of outcomes, communicate openly, and genuinely care about the people we support. That culture shows up in our consistency, transparency, and the trust we build with clients over time.
About half of our clients are nonprofit organizations, and that is something we are incredibly proud of. Supporting teams that are making a real impact in our community gives our work deeper meaning. Whether it is a nonprofit serving families, education, healthcare, or local causes, we understand that their technology needs to be reliable, secure, and cost conscious so they can stay focused on their mission.
As cybersecurity threats increase and compliance requirements continue to evolve, many organizations are realizing they need more than basic IT support. They need guidance and a trusted partner. That is where eCreek IT does its best work. We help organizations make clear, informed technology decisions and build environments that are secure, resilient, and ready for the future.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Before you innovate, make sure you can imitate. Early in your career, there’s a lot of value in learning from people who are already doing things the right way. Pay attention to how they communicate, make decisions, and carry themselves.
Surround yourself with people who challenge you, expand your perspective, and hold you to a higher standard, and be willing to do the same for others as you grow in your own career. The strongest professional relationships are built on mutual respect and a shared commitment to getting better.
Stay true to yourself, but don’t be afraid to seek guidance. Find someone whose approach you respect and learn everything you can from them. If you never ask, you’ll never get an answer.
Remember: A “thank you” goes a long way.
