Meet Madison Dorenkamp

Today we’d like to introduce you to Madison Dorenkamp.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Madison. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My story… still being written. I grew up in Southeastern Colorado, on a farm and ranch. I moved to Denver from Lamar for college in 2012. I wasn’t really sure what to expect moving to the city from such a small town, but I fell in love with Denver. If you asked me to describe myself, I would tell you I’m a “hustler”, in the best way possible of course. I am currently a blogger, a free lance model, micro influencer, Miss Colorado USA, and a subcontractor for a roofing and exteriors business. I consider myself a constant work in progress, and really focus on truly “living” life.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Smooth road? Absolutely, not. When I was in the 8th grade, my childhood home was destroyed by a tornado in Holly, Colorado with my dad, my brother, and myself inside. Luckily, my family was okay, but a natural disaster is a devastation is something I hope you never have to experience. I now volunteer with the American Red Cross as I experienced the impact they had on my town and my family.

After college, I struggled with my weight and confidence with eventually led me to compete for Miss Colorado USA. (I’ve lost over 40 pounds) Originally, I used competing as motivation, then I realized the platform and reach that winning Miss Colorado USA really had. Five tries later over the course of eight years, here I am your current Miss Colorado USA.

Tell us about your work – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
My blog madisondorenkamp.net is my main passion which drives many other outlets of my life. I love to write and express myself through writing, but most importantly I love to connect. My passion for connecting with others is what drives my blog, my influencer work, my modeling, and being Miss Colorado USA.

I am most proud of my blog because it something I have created completely on my own, and grown on my own. I strive to create a sense of community for everyone that reads my blog or even comes across my social media. It’s so difficult to make friends as an adult, and truly connect with others, but through my blog I able to do that. I keep my blog as ‘real’ as possible. I don’t sugar coat the tough stuff, and I don’t shy away from the hard topics.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success to me, is living life on your own terms and striving for improvement everyday. I believe success is something that can be achieved everyday, and is a constant work in progress.
