Meet Jess Taylor of Native Nectar Botanicals in Crested Butte

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jess Taylor.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Jess. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My love affair with natural remedies began over ten years ago. At the time, I wanted to become a Naturopathic doctor and began coursework in pre-med with an emphasis in holistic modalities. Over the next two years, my passion for natural medicine continued to grow and I decided I wanted to focus on plant medicine and so began my training in Clinical Herbalism. After having my first child, I felt lost and struggled to find my identity in my newfound role of motherhood. It was out of this transition that Native Nectar Botanicals was born. Combining the traditional plant medicine knowledge I had learned, a holistic approach to skincare and my desire to create beautiful, effective products; I was able to slowly build NNB to what it is today. This is more than a business to me, it is a way of life and a sacred calling I feel privileged to hold.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’ve definitely experience a lot of struggles and learning curves. There have been so many times I’ve wanted to pack it in and quit but at the end of the day, there’s nothing I would rather be doing, even when it’s hard. From just a practical standpoint, trying to run a business while being a mother of two small children is really hard. Trying to find a balance between family life and the dedication and time it takes to grow a business takes a lot of intention. I’m still working on it and there are times my husband has to tell me to just turn off the computer and be done for the day! I’ve also had challenges with figuring out supply chains and sustainable ways to grow while maintaining quality control. I’m definitely more of a right-brained, big-picture kind of person so I think really having a grasp on the everyday minutia of business will always be a struggle for me.

We specialize in bringing natural products to the modern consumer. People today are very educated on ingredients and have high standards for not only what’s in the products but they also want results and want it all in Instagram worthy packaging. I think what sets Native Nectar apart from others is that I’m constantly striving to improve. Whether is finding ways to incorporate the latest scientifically proven ingredient or keeping our packaging on trend, I never want to sit back and say, “Well that’s good enough”. As a company, I’m proud of the impact we are able to make in people’s lives. It still feels surreal when someone messages me telling me how Native Nectar products have helped them with their confidence and overall self-care.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
We were just chosen to be a part of Tory Burch’s Seed Box, which is a selection of products from female entrepreneurs that they promote every holiday season. To be recognized by such a successful and powerful woman-owned company feels like a huge accomplishment.
