Meet Kayleigh Forsey of Be A Kind Human in Centennial

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kayleigh Forsey.

Kayleigh, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have always been the friend that friends could count on. I pride myself on how I treat others. I noticed not everyone works that way. Some people are only out for themselves and that’s okay. I’ll step up my game and be that much more. The world has gotten dark over the past couple of years. I was looking for inspiration one day to help ease my mind. And I read somewhere, “Be the change you wish to see in the world”. I wished there was more kindness. I wished for more understanding. I wished that we could all be kind to one another. So I set out to change just my immediate world. My life. My husband’s life. My children’s lives.

One morning I woke up with the phrase “Be A Kind Human” running through my brain. What was I going to do with this? How will I get the word out? Who will listen? So I started an Instagram account. I asked my followers to send me kindness on a postcard. A kind phrase, an inspiring quote, happiness. I wanted it all. It was slow going at first but now I’m up to 80+ postcards and I have made beautiful connections with like-minded human beings. I have a goal of making a book with all the cards I have received. It’s a beautiful thing.

Has it been a smooth road?
The road has been a bit bumpy. But that is to be expected. I had severe postpartum anxiety after my second child was born. It was debilitating. Add that we moved from Ohio. Our main support system was there. I felt lost but the kindness of strangers and doing small acts of kindness myself helped me climb out of the deep pits of anxiety-land.

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
Sharing kindness is what I have been put on this Earth to do. When I started this cause I was one of a few in my community on social media. Now, I see more and more like-minded people who are as excited as I am to share the love. I enjoy connecting and speaking with people who love the same things that I know the world wants and needs. I’m most proud of the community I am a part of. The people who have reached out to me and thank me for brightening their day. That warms my heart and pushes me to do more.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
The art of kindness has been forgotten by many. I do believe that we are on an upswing. There is a need for happiness, kindness and love around the world. I believe that the future is bright for this industry. Schools are teaching more kindness. Families are doing what they can to teach their children to be the ‘kind’ kids. Our society is yearning for a bright light and I think it’s on the way.
