Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Isaacson.
Nicole, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have been into music since before I can even remember. My first favorite song was Vanessa Mae’s Storm. I was one or two-years-old and would listen to it with my grandpa in the car. He told me I couldn’t pronounce the ‘s’ so I would just call it ‘torm.’ She is a BADASS let me tell you. An absolute rockstar violinist. So naturally, I begged my parents to let me play the violin until they finally let me in first grade. I fell in love with. From the beginning, I knew music was my passion. I ended up going to a middle school specifically because my violin teacher was a teacher at that school. He was my inspiration and never failed to put a smile on anyone’s face. He was the most positive, loved a man by his students, family and friends. I remember one day the first year I went to the school he told us he was going home early because he didn’t feel well that afternoon. Mr. May passed away from a stroke. From that moment on, I promised him I would dedicate my life to music and making him proud to thank him for everything he taught me.
Fast forward to my senior year of high school, I started getting into electronic music and discovering what this scene really was. I lived in Orlando, so the environment was nothing close to how large it is in Denver, but I still got a taste. This is where my decision to attend the Univerity of Denver came from. I needed to be here. My first year in Denver I went to 32 Red rocks shows… which is literally insane to think about now but I was obsessed. I wanted to experience every kind of music and every show I could go to. I would watch the people up there and all I could think was I need that to be me. I want to make people this happy with the sound. My sophomore year is when I got my first DJ board. I started playing around campus bars but I hated appealing to a crowd. I wanted to play what I wanted BASS. It makes me feel something more than any words can. Vibrations and patters of such through a human body can have so many different effects which I think is one of the most interesting concepts about music. These then stir emotions which is what draws me to this sound. I graduated with a major in Emergent Digital Practices (technology-based art) in June and started playing downtown about a year ago. Since then, I have played at Your Mom’s House, The Church, The Black Box, and currently has a residency at Nativ.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely has not been an easy path, especially being a female in the industry. It’s really all about networking, immersing yourself in the scene, and getting your foot in the door. No one can help you but yourself.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
My energetic, outgoing bubbly personality. Music makes me SMILE and that’s exactly what I want my fans and audience to feel too when I’m on a stage. Taken out of reality and in a different realm of pure resonant bliss.
