Meet Ash Heather of Epic Water Filters in Boulder

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ash Heather.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Ash. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’m an Australian who worked in investment banking for 18 years, mostly in Asia. After I finished my banking career I wanted to pursue something more meaningful, and the proliferation of empty plastic water bottles on the beaches and in the rivers of Asia had always struck a chord with me.

So when I moved to the US in 2o14 I founded Epic Water Filters with an ambitious goal: give people around the world access to clean, healthy and inexpensive water, meaning less reliance on bottled water.

Water quality is not just a problem in developing countries. Here in the United States, we can look at Flint, Michigan and its water pollution crisis to understand contaminated water is a growing problem everywhere. Not to mention, developed countries are actually the worst offenders of single-use plastic bottles, with many citizens not trusting their municipal water supplies.

I wanted Epic Water Filters to support the community we live and work in and found the perfect partner in local non-profit, The Inland Ocean Coalition, which raises awareness of the impact that microplastics are having on

our rivers and oceans.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has been far from smooth. Firstly it was a very steep learning curve in regards to water filtration, supply chains and the world of e-commerce.

The life of creating your own business is a real rollercoaster – lots of ups and lots of downs. the key is to learn from the downs and not get too disheartened.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Epic Water Filters – what should we know?
Epic Water Filters wants to be your one-stop solution to water filtration. We sell filtration bottles, filtration pitchers and under-sink filters. We want to have you covered for pure water – whether you are at home, at work or on the go!

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My wife – Epic Water Filters was definitely her idea too.

My business partner Joel Stevens – we teamed up in 2016 and since then Epic Water Filters has been growing at a rapid rate
