Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Mauck.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Laura. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My husband Jeff and I, and our business partner Dan started this business in 2017 after being inspired by European Cargo Bikes. We founded our business because of our love of biking and our backgrounds.
I am a writer/researcher/historian. I wrote the book “Five Points Neighborhood of Denver” which is a historical account of African Americans in Denver. I also worked on research and development at the Denver Public Library for the Blair Caldwell African American Research Library as well as Educational Outreach. I bring my writing and research skills to the team to help with marketing, social media and grant writing.
Jeff is a designer and urban planner. His varied experiences include architectural design, construction, urban planning, furniture design and metalwork. He uses these skills at Juggernaut for everything from designing the bike to advocating for better urban infrastructure.
Dan is a real estate agent with a unique perspective on the changing urban environment in Denver. As a Denver native, he has seen Denver’s population growth in recent years and is motivated to build awareness about how cargo bikes can help reduce traffic congestion in our city and other cities throughout the US.
We are all avid bikers, and we wanted to offer an alternative form of transportation in our ever-growing and congested city of Denver with the dream of selling them throughout the United States.
After two years of developing our prototype, testing it, building awareness and acquiring funding we are excited to say that we are in production! We are currently building our first batch of cargo bikes in Boulder with renowned bike builder Pete Olivetti of Olivetti Bikes. Juggernaut Cargo Bikes will be hitting the streets this coming Spring!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
As with any start-up, the road has not always been smooth. One of the most difficult challenges we have had as a company is being first to market with our product. While cargo bikes are well known and widely used in European cities such as Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Berlin and Barcelona, the trend is just catching on the United Stares. We are constantly building awareness about cargo bikes and educating people about how cargo bikes can be a revolutionary yet simple way to move through urban environments. As a company, we like to look at these types of struggles as learning opportunities and a way to challenge ourselves to think outside the box and get creative! We also love reminding people of the freedom that can come from letting go of your car and getting on a bike.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Juggernaut Cargo Bikes – what should we know?
Juggernaut Cargo Bikes mission is to change the way people and products move through the urban environment. Founded in Denver, Colorado and born from our experiences in urban planning, architecture and design, these influences come together to create a handcrafted and precision-engineered cargo bike that is practical, effective, and beautiful. We are passionate about biking, mobility and changing the way people and businesses think about transportation.
We believe that cargo bikes can be as common-place as the automobile, and we are ready to take on the challenge of being first-to-market in the US with a three-wheeled, e-assist, front-load cargo bike. More than a cargo bike company, Juggernaut is a mobility company that advocates for cycling infrastructure and regional connectivity. Part of our role in advocacy is to build awareness of the need for inter-neighborhood pathways, city-wide bike lanes, and last-mile delivery solutions for small business and corporations to reduce congestion and overcrowding in the urban core. Juggernaut knows that cities need easy-to-navigate, connected and safe pathways to promote biking and we are encouraged by the progress that we see happening in our own city and throughout the US.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Our bike builder Pete Olivetti of Olivetti Bikes in Boulder is, of course, an integral part of our team. His talent and attention to detail is essential to building high quality, eye-catching, and reliable cargo bikes.
We are also thankful for a diverse and talented Advisory Board that has guided us throughout our start-up process and has advised us on everything from legal matters to public relations to design. We truly would not be where we are today without them.
