Meet Saura Madani of Kevin Taylor Restaurant Group

Today we’d like to introduce you to Saura Madani.

Saura, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’ve always loved food, It was only in my 20’s when I realized I could make a living out of cooking (and eating) food! I started my career in Los Angeles, working for various restaurants in the pastry and savory departments. When I moved to Denver back in 2012, I again found work in pastry at Kevin Taylor Restaurant Group. I worked my way up to Executive Pastry Chef of the company, making desserts and pastries for the various restaurants in the group. I started a dessert blog in 2017, where I could share all my favorite recipes with the public!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I don’t think anyone ever has a smooth road to success. The struggles I’ve gone through in my life are all personal struggles, death, family, addiction. Working in a kitchen taught me discipline and made me want to be a better chef every day.

Please tell us more about your work.
I am the pastry chef for a restaurant group. I don’t have ownership in the company, however, I’ve been with the company now for almost seven years. I’ve learned, grown, and become the chef I am today because of Kevin Taylor Restaurant Group. We have three restaurants and 1 catering venue. I make desserts for each and they get transported to where they need to go.

I have a small team of great assistants and we do everything from cakes, to ice cream, to plated desserts, to petit fours, to breakfast pastries and more. I am constantly on the hunt for new techniques and innovative things to try, and I make sure to teach everyone who works for me everything I know. What sets us apart as a company is our creative menus, our extremely dedicated and passionate team members, and our quality of food.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I could do it all over again, I would probably move to New York at a much younger age and work my way up in kitchens there. I feel like if you can make it there, you can make it anywhere.
