Today we’d like to introduce you to Mauri Roberts.
Can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today. You can include as little or as much detail as you’d like.
When I was in high school, my boyfriend bought me a gym membership for my birthday. My first thought was… thaanks, SERIOUSLY, you think I need a gym membership? I had never worked out before and had never been to a gym. Eventually, I forgave him! That boyfriend years later became my husband, and that gift turned into my passion. I started working out religiously, on my own and taking group fitness classes. I grew close with the instructors, and they saw my dedication and passion. I was asked to substitute a few classes. I reluctantly agreed and thankfully so, as I found my calling in that class. Anyone who knows me will tell you that I’m not shy, however, this was different. I had no clue what I was about to do and wondered what I just agreed to. I never would have thought that almost 20 years later, the instructors who I looked up to, are now my peers.
Has it been a smooth road? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way? Any advice for other women, particularly young women who are just starting their journey?
My gym family means the world to me and I absolutely love what I do! I love being a trusted coach/trainer, empowering women like me to stay physically, nutritionally and emotionally fit. I know that I am doing exactly what I was designed to do. I had heard that if you love your work, you never really work. I never thought anything of it, until I started doing what I love. As an instructor, I have always been able to be “on” no matter what kind of morning I have had. Group fitness is also group therapy to many, myself included. When I first started teaching, I didn’t have any kids, I now have three. I stay at home with them, teaching 5 mornings a week. My kids and I have made lifelong friends in the process. You have to be passionate about the people and the activity. I’ve been tremendously blessed to see the impact I’ve had on so many lives. For anyone looking to break into this industry, I’d recommend they seriously consider the time and effort it takes to hone your craft and to get people to trust and follow you. But if you love to work out and you’re comfortable in front of people (yelling at times), then a career in group fitness and personal training may be a great fit for you.
We’d love to learn more about your work. What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of as a brand, organization or service provider? What sets you apart from others?
My goal is for each class to be fun, upbeat and to make everyone work to their full potential! I teach several types of classes including, Tone & Sculpt, Total Body Conditioning, Athletic Conditioning, Buns & Belly and Cycle. I provide my class and clients with a safe forum. I also collaborate with Colorado Alternative Medicine to host 30-day challenges, $30 gets you an InBody composition which measures your body fat percentage, along with a Vitamin B12 injection. Cash and other prizes are given to the person with the most body fat percentage loss. Colorado Alternative Medicine offers Hormone Replacement Therapy and Medial Weight Loss.
They offer B12 injections anytime for $15 just for mentioning my name coaltmeds.com. I also provide personal training services. The name of my company is Anything For Thirty LLC. The name comes from one of the several sayings that I use….”You can do anything for thirty seconds”, which I usually yell during a wall sit, running up hills or while doing burpees. I’m proud of the way I motivate! I am very proud that I have a group of 50-100 women who are healthier and stronger because of our relationship. Even as I say that, it makes me smile!
So much of the media coverage is focused on the challenges facing women today, but what about the opportunities? Do you feel there are any opportunities that women are particularly well positioned for?
Of course! My group of women build each other up, encouraging one another, and are each other’s biggest cheerleaders. We have a very special relationship and a common bond, We are all women who want to be physically and emotionally healthy. I think that when channeled this sort of bond makes women unstoppable, whether in a corporate setting, raising kids or working out. I currently teach at CHUZE in Broomfield, I would love to meet you and help you achieve your fitness goals. Come see me!
